Has anyone tried direct sowing statice? The seed package says "direct seeding not reccomended" why would this be?

Statice sinuata? I haven't had any problem direct sowing them. Maybe the recommendation reflects getting an earlier start on them by seeding indoors. Does the packet say light necesary for germination? I'm not sure I am remembering right but that might be the case. They start out looking a lot like a weed. Try seeding both ways and see what happens.

My package says Limonium sinuatum, looks like we are talking about same kind. The package says nothing about needing light for germination. It does say 65% germination which seems low to me. I did find one site that says ok to plant right into beds after danger of frost has passed.

I sowed a package of these on the surface of the soil one year and they never came up. Not a single one. I never figured out what happened. Better safe than sorry I guess.
