I have three container water gardens that I would like to add fish to. I put a Beta (named Lucky…..and he does live up to his name) in one pot. I don’t see him often but then again I haven’t found him floating on the surface of the water either. I put four Comets in a larger container and two “sucker” fish. I have lost three Comets and one sucker fish. I think they died because of too little oxygen in the water. I want to put in a small fountain or pond spitter to help oxygenate the water. And just to have that water sound in my garden. Unfortunately I don’t have access to an electrical outlet anywhere near the containers and can’t move them. Can anyone tell me how to make my own solar powered spitter/fountain? Or suggest some reading material that will give me the information I need. I wouldn’t know what to buy or where to begin.
Thanks
How do I build a solar powered spitter/fountain?
cklync.....Actually, the easiest way to do it, it to go to Ebay and buy one. They are incredibly cheap now. I have them all over my yard. The ones on Ebay have the panel, the cord, and the little pump....so all you need is some tubing and the actual statue you want to use (or you can put the tube between rocks and make a little trickle water fall, etc)
Watch the temperature of your water...Usually comets don't need much oxygen, they are surface breathers too. Also some anacharis plants at the bottom of your pot will provide a little shade, and a little oxygen.

I'll second MerryMary's eBay suggestion, but add one thing -- they sell two kinds of solar pumps on eBay: One WITH storage battery and one without. The one without does not pump unless the sun is shining on it that very moment. The one with storage does. The prices are about the same.
You may also want to talk with your fish supplier about adding a little salt to the water - I understand it boosts the fishes' immune system

Pat...good point about the back-up battery ! I forgot to mention that, and I love the ones I have that have them. The others without, I still enjoy during the day anway, but really like having a few running in the evening.
