Looks just like mine! One of my favorites!

Looks like escargot to me, too.

I bought one this year, and it was doing fine for about a week. Then, suddenly, it's as if the stems went limp. All the beautiful leaves have bent over like it's wilted. It has plenty of water (but not too much)... I don't know what's going on with it. Does anyone have any advice for my problem plant? I love it and want it to survive.

Thanks for any help.

David

Dave, all I can tell you is that I let mine almost dry out before watering it again. I am really new to begonia's so was really afraid of this one. I had heard it was tempremental, but so far it seems to like my watering regime.

I have had mine about 2 months now. I have it sitting on a dish with pebbles and water added to it for added humidity and I occasionaly mist it too. And yes, as jerodsmom said, you need to let it dry out before watering. A tip is to add H202 to the water to add oxygen from overwatering.

Thanks for your responses. I planted my escargot in potting soil that has a built in mostiure control... bad idea. It never seems to dry out. I am sure that over watering is causing the problem. I am going to repot it tonight with a better mixture of soil to allow more air to get to the roots, and hope it's not too late.

I was just commenting on how everybody has said that this begonia is so picky...I have not did anything extra to keep this going..actually it has been neglected...it was wilting abit the other day and all I did was water it..it looks wonderful....Judy

David I am not thrilled with all the 'extras' the potting soil companies are adding and exactly for the example you have just given us. More than not one of the additives isn't good for what you're potting up. I just go with the 'additive' free soilless mix and add my own stuff. It is getting harder to find though.
