The homestead....

Eureka, CA

Okay ~ this was just meant to be. I lived in one home the entire time I was growing up. My parents stayed there another 20 years or so after the kids grew up and went away, until my dad died, 13 years ago. Today, when I came back to Sacramento to visit my daughter who just moved here, I went by the old place. It looks great. Someone is taking very good care of it, and the yard. And I drove around back (there was an alley access). And I saw a very tall brug in bloom! The fence is at least 8-10', and I could see another foot above that. Pop never had brugs in the back yard, but he does now. It did my heart good to see them, and to see the house lovingly cared for. I am happy.

I bet you are. What a fun thing that there is a brug growing now. Kind of a connection to the present you. It must feel good that your home is going on in time and is well cared for. When we sold my mother's house after she died, it was totally torn down right away. She lived where charming older homes are torn down and huge, ugly ones built in their place. It is so unsettling to know not only is she gone but so is her place on earth.
