Anyone ever used data migration kit??

I will be ordering my laptop tomorrow (this one: http://www.samsclub.com/shopping/navigate.do?dest=5&item=334525&pCatg=5680 )
and have two questions. I think a data migration kit would be faster and easier than making a bunch of dvd's or cd's. Anyone ever tried one? HP has it for $59.00, comes with a usb cord, so you can hook the laptop to a desktop (or any two computers, for that matter).
And does anyone know of a pcmcia adapter so I can use my compact flash cards? Or a cheap card reader? Thanks, everyone!
