Indigenous plants

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

This is a shot of my mother's fern garden, located in an old mica mine at our family cottage on the Big Rideau Lake (between Ottawa and Kingston, Ontario). Several ferns are evident here (there are 23 different ones in the mine). Some of us are trying to start a Ferns Forum on DG: if you're interested, visit http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/592182/ and add your voice!

Most notable are the Jack-in-the-pulpit, now in bloom, and the carpet of jewelweed seedlings. This lovely plant, impatiens capensis, grows wild here as you can see, and we just pull these up as part of routine maintenance in the fern mine.

Lovely Andy......it reminds me of the lush beauty we see when camping in the forests up north and in BC.
