How do Monarch's eggs get fertilized

New Port Richey, FL(Zone 9b)

Does it happen , In the air or when they are landed on something? or do they not have to have actual contact.I see alot of what I thought was aerial combat.Don't know if that is terrorialism or them hookin up.
