Sick African Violet

Does anyone know what would cause the leaves of this plant to discolor like it has. The leaves are turning brown, even thought it still continues to flower. It is the only one of my AVs that has been affected by this. What is wrong with my baby and how can I help it?

Morning Jesse. Could be water spotting or more likely bleaching from the sun. Where do you have the plant.

There is a wonder page on the first sticky. Just scroll down until you see something about pictures of leaves. I think you will find your answer there.

After the leaves change color, what happens? Do they dry up? Do they turn to mush? The brownish ones in your photo still look perky....

I was trying to read the name on the tag. Is there any chance that this is Ness' Blue Flirt? If so, that one is supposed to be "variegated dark green & cream" so maybe those leaves are showing variegation.... Have they always had this color, or did the different colored leaves start out dark green like the rest of them?

I say it is Bleaching from sunshine or PH problem .
Best thing to do it to re-pot the plant in new fresh soil and pot . Re-move the problemed leaves throw them away. Hek remove any leaves that do not make the plant a good shape. Good leaves put down ! Place the plant in area where there is no hot burning sun.
Keep an eye on it.
If you do this and it is Bleaching from sunshine or PH
problem it should be fine !
I do not beleive it is a type of variegation. Yes FC does says variegated dark green and cream scalloped ! But it's dark green and has cream ( not yellow) edges. Most plants bought from Nurseries /older blooming will lose their variegation and babies will have it. Most plants I grow lol When it gets warm even with A/C if night temps. don't drop ten degrees will lose variegations. It's so much fun when you pu down a leaf and get the variegated babies !

Jesse~ I had some of the same on mine after moving to a window that had some strong direct sunlight for only a few hours. (As if you already hadn't got the message ~LOL~) But just wanted to confirm and say I did it too :) I moved them back to where their other friends live (on a glass shelving unit in an east window) that doesn't get direct light. That took care of the issue.

Good luck!

Oh my Goodness hot sunlight can burn a leaf in less than 5 min. I learned this a couple years ago when we did not get the shade down in time in the late afternoon.

This was on my plant shelves and the others are fine so I have no idea what caused it. I will keep a watch on it to see how it goes.

Jesse~ I'm going to use this opportunity to ask the question, Are some AV's more sensitive to bright light than others? I ask because I noticed when I had them in more direct sunlight a couple of them seemed to really love it while a couple of them got burn marks. Anyone??

There are Av's that grow best at the end of the light tubes where the light is not as strong or in natural light. One is girl leaf foliage, yellow flowering Av's, light colored foliage flowers that bloom pastel colors like pink, whte..
I have fount my Russian plants like the end of the light tubes or natual light.

Jesse did you re-pot your plant into a new bleached pot with new soil as it might be the PH...Also always a good idea to take the leaves not doing good off this way your plant can spend it energy getting better than trying to repair and brusied or damaged leaves.
Always important Jacki or anyone to keep plants out of hot buring light.

Thanks Allison. I did put it in a clean pot, one that had never been used. Thanks for the tip about taking off the bad leaves. I will do this immediately. I do not want it using all it energy trying to grow those yucky leaves.
