Brug. seeds

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Would someone please tell me how long Brug. seeds are viable? I have searched through many threads and can find no mention of this tidbit regarding seeds. Do they need to be planted immediately or do they hold for a period of time? Thank you.

This is the info from
Brugmansia and Datura Angel's Trumpets and Thorn Apples
Book

Brugmansia seeds can either be sown fresh or dried and packaged so that they are airtight. They can then be stored in a cool dry place for several years. When test were carried out on five-year-old seed, it germinated almost as well as seed that had been freshly harvested.

I've had two and three year old seed germinate. The only ones I had trouble with were seeds from doubles and versicolors, they didn't seem to hold up as long as some other varieties.

Many thanks for the information. I tried to germinate several types of seeds a number of years ago; they either didn't germinate or after doing so, damped off. That was it for me on seeds, and I became a plant only person. :) I do work every year with hosta seeds, but they are so easy "a caveman could do it". When you say dry the seeds, does that simply mean to lay them out in the open for several days, or should they still be in their pods?

I dry mine on a paper towel or a paper plate(usually on the dining room table).

I put mine under my grow lights on my seedling table, spread out on a paper towel on a paper plate.
