Info for Shipping Leaves

Silsbee, TX(Zone 9a)

Hey, I know I've come across info for how to ship leaves before but I have no idea where it was. Can someone direct me to it? I'm pretty sure it wasn't in the stickys. I just thought I'd ask before I spent 4 hours looking, LOL! This will be my first time shipping leaves so I need detailed instructions to make sure I get it right.

Also, can I use a bubble envie vs a box to ship them?

Thanks much! (just full of questions this week!)

Cut the leaf with as long of stem as possible. Next, I usuall wash the leaves in dish soap and water. When they are dry I I make a fresh cut at the end of the stem and wrap with a small piece of paper towel. Some add a little piece of tin foil. Then, I put the leaf in a snack size ziplock bag. I like to leave a little air in the bag as a cushion. Leaves by themselves can be sent in bubble envelopes or they can be tucked in with plants in a box.

Looking forward to how others ship leaves.

Thanks Nanna, I really do appreciate it. I'm sure others will post to, but if not, your directions sound great and easy to follow. I know I can do that! =^)

I always water my plants 2-3 days before cutting fresh leaves to ship. I also make sure plants are clean . If not then I have to wash the leaves. Never dry them let them dry natural air.
Only cut fresh leaves from middle rows. Not old leaves nor leaves too young. Nice green healthy. Best leaves to put down are ones right under a new flower bud !
I always cut leaves the night before shipping or the morning before . Like Wed. morning I cut Jill's leaves about 5:30 AM and then Hubby took them to the Post Office at 8:30. I want them to always be as fresh as can be . Growing takes a lot of patience and healthy leaves sure help !
I do cut stem as long as possible but I cut straight across as the person getting leaves will want to make a new cut. Good rule of thumb the shorter the stem when putting a leaf down the better . One inch or less.
A person without a lot of experience should cut stems straight across . one inch or less . Put into soil cup straight into the middle standing straing up. Water threw good. I do this way all the time less chance of losing them. and you get lots of babies.
I do not put any wet on the stems anymore. I have recived too many soggy mushed leaves . Couple years ago I did this way and after people recieving mush and I was recieving Mush no more.
I slip the dry newly cut leaves into a bag and seal them Also don't forget to write the names on each bag.
I do not like to use evelopes but Priority boxes but some people do with no problem. This time of the year bubble envelopes can be a poor choice hot heat sweltering inside and then Mail People also tend to stick them right into the mail box. No need to right fragile and so on the boxes they don't read it.
I prefer Priority boxes. They are FREE and so is the tape. Make sure they are padded well and can not move around.
Use clean packing materials. When shipping many leaves in with plants I'll put them into cups of their own, or little box , something to protect them so they don't move. Nothing should move in the box for a safe trip !
I will find some links for you
