Rox:

There is no true solid red iris. The only cultivar that comes even close is a bog iris called "Bold Pretender". Parks seeds sells it. I bought some for my water garden this year. They are hale and hearty but no blooms yet.... They reportedly have red petals edged in yellow. Parks has a picture on their web site.

Don't know about gawdy orange. I know that there are peach/apricot colored iris - I have one called Beverly Sills that is gorgeous. It has beautifully ruffled petals.

Hope this helps,

Rox I have several "reds" while none are true, they are closest yet. I currently have available War Chief, Frontier Marshall, Dynamite. Also a few oranges Oktoberfest, Flaming Star (limited) and Quito.

Have a "red" border bearded too that the foliage completely dies back each year. Revel in Red by Don Spoon. It's a great feature and makes for easy fall cleanup.

Interested in named dahlias and hostas . Check out the plant files on the above names.

Here's my War Chief, you can see Flaming Star in the background of the pic. I love the way these two work together to build a glow in my garden.

War Chief, Frontier Marshall and Dynamite all meet my defintion of "red", but I am sorry I wasn't more specific!

Oktoberfest, Flaming Star (limited) and Quito are lovely oranges and Beverly Sills is indeed a lovely peach.

I also like some two tone irises: Red Canyon Glow

The combination of War Chief and Flaming Star must be lovely!

Elizabethtown- I will send Dmail.
