Thanks, Awanda!
See the remains of the last ones off to the right?
It looks like that peduncle is going to bloom again, too.

League City, TX(Zone 9a)

Nice flower! You must be patient! Mine gets one new leaf a year. I've almost chunked it in the trash several times. Congrats on the blooms!

Macon, IL(Zone 5b)

Beautiful, Nan!

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

Thanks, girls!

Luckily for me....this plant was pretty large when I bought it (it must have been a rooted cutting from a LARGE plant) so it's bloomed pretty reliably, but does blast once in a while, though I haven't figured out why (I have a feeling it's a watering issue, though.)

It fell a couple of times, too....so the foliage isn't as attractive as it once was (broken leaves) ...good thing it blooms!! LOL!

Very nice Nan - congratulations!

Just noticed that I said I've been waiting a long time, then I say it's been a reliable bloomer, lol!!

What I meant was....the first umbel appeared, literally months ago...then blasted, then this umbel appeared, and it seemed to take forever for the blooms to open.

It has bloomed every year for the past 3 that I've owned it;) but this year it really took it's time!

It is a slow grower, isn't it, NightBloomer (Susan)?

Nice flowers! Had one years ago, but my flowers didn't have any red in it. Is this another clone or something?

Christina

Mt Zion, IL(Zone 5b)

Oh Nan - - thaaaaat's GORgeous! Does it smell as pretty as it looks?

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

Thanks, Christina.....I think we'll have to wait for Carol to chime in on that 'clone' issue! I have no idea!

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

Typing at the same time, Betsy!! lol!

No....I think the scent is a little 'unpleasant'!

It's not the least bit over-powering, though...had to get right up to it to 'sniff'!

Örebro, Sweden

Beautiful flowers!
I have the same question as Christina, since my pachyclada doesn't have any red in it either.
Here's a picture of my pachyclada. I prefer the one with red in it...:)

Yes, that's what mine looked like.

The one with red in is MUCH nicer. Perhaps I should get one of those too... It has rather big leaves doesn't it? I loooooove the ones with big leaves.

Nan, such a cute little flower. what ever it is, it's a keeper. Well heck there both real pretty, I will have to keep an eye on this thread and see what the outcome is..

Oh, WOW, Nan!! That is fabulous - congratulations!
So, is that plant a pretty big one that needs lots of space?
Ann

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

It does have quite large leaves, but as I'd stated above, it fell a couple of times and lost a leaf or two or three......it's quite a slow grower, but if it does continue to grow larger it will, eventually take up a lot of space.

I'll try to get a photo of the foliage over the weekend.

Bella's blooms opened up this morning!

These smelled 'fresh'....I like it.

Something must be wrong with my nose, or I have different types of bellas because I can NEVER detect any kind of odor at ALL comming from the bella flowers. Am I the only one??
Marcy

League City, TX(Zone 9a)

I just love H. bella and I can't grow it. Too warm here I think. I have a variegated bella that I barely keep alive. It does better inside than out.

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

lol, Marcy....I had to put my nose *RIGHT UP TO* the blooms, and it was early in the morning....may that's the reason I detected a scent?
It certaily didn't fill the room (or house!) like Carnosa or Lacunosa do.

Mesa, AZ(Zone 9a)

Susan if I can grow bella and get it to bloom here, I'm sure you can grow it:-).

Hi Nan,
Nice bella! I'm glad to hear that someone else also thinks that bella smells. I wrote that on a Swedish forum and it seemed like I was the only one who thought so. I agree with you that it has a 'fresh' smell.

Trelleborg, Sweden

I've written on my website that I found bella to have a fresh fragrance, so you're not alone Lotta!

Örebro, Sweden

Glad to hear that, Christina =)

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

Hey, and we even agree on the description of the scent!

I'm glad to hear that I wasn't imagining it!

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

I'd promised to try to get a shot of the foliage of the Pachyclada....here 'tis.

Please don't tell me it's NOT Pachyclada ( LOL)....I did the comparison with the other plant that resembles it (can't recall the name...someone had posted great photos...Carol?) and was certain it was....plus I bought it from a reliable seller.

Nan, looking good! Sorry I missed this post! Great photos!

Those photos look really nice - and BIG! I don't remember my old pachyclada to be that big, but then it got too much sun for its own good and died.
