When To Remove Mama?

Silsbee, TX(Zone 9a)

How big do you wait for your baby leaves to get before you remove the Mama? And when should I repot the babies?

Here's some pics.

Thanks!

I wait a long time until the babies are as tall or just about as big as Mom. It's like a Mom pregnant. Tale the baby early pre=mature might make it have to have lots of speical time catching up//
More healthy chance if baby kept with Mom longer ! From time I put down leaf take from Mom is about 6 month average. I think it was Rob's from Violet barn reccomends this also !

Thanks, I couldn't remember how long to wait or how big they were supposed to be. I appreciate it! =^)

You may have to cut the tip off the Mom in first picture for babies to get by. I like to set my leaves in the middle straight up and still I have to trim Mom .
Your second picture I was just looking is there more than on leaf ?
If so I would take the time separte them and put each baby with their mom into their own pots. Nice baby growing !

Ditto what Allison said -- those little plantlets look great!

The mom leaf in the first picture looks pretty "tired" (yellowing) so is probably not doing a whole lot for the babies I wouldn't think... if it seems to be shading/covering any of the little plantlets, I'd trim it mostly back and let the babies keep growing together until the pot looks crowded with good sized plantlets.

What fun!!

I do have some that are covered by the Mama, so I'll give them a little trim. The bottom pic is 4 Mama leaves in one pot! LOL! I didn't know that was a big deal....I ran out of pots at the time and couldn't stand to throw the leaves away. These were the first leaves I put down and I only expected 1 or 2 to live. I've already given some away and I've still got about a dozen on the shelf. One of my variegated ones is showing it's first baby leaf today. Whoo-hoo!!

Thanks Ali & Jill, I appreciate it. This is soooo fun! Great fun on rainy days like today. =^D

I trans-plant babies growing a lot ..some babies can be with Mom 6 plus months from time leaf is put down. babies and plants both like trans-planting often to keep PH good and babies healthy boost.

Thanks Kelly! The folks here really know their AVs!!

Mine have been down for about 2 - 3 months at most I'm guessing. Maybe I will repot them next week if I have time to. I'll wait to trim the Mama's till I repot. I just watered everyone today, so I don't want to disturb them when they're too wet.

Thanks again!

I'd keep them with Mom until they double in size !

That's what I'll do then....and I'll have this thread to look back on so hopefully I won't have to ask again. =^)
