I really like plants with LONGIFOLIA - foliage ! Not many plants with it !
I sent Deb a Rob's Zinfandel has longifolia foliage, Celery, and one of my favorites vintage South Shore Rose.

LONGIFOLIA - also called Spider or Strap leaves. Describes a pointed leaf that is quite narrow and can have plain or wavy edges.descriptions to me does not describe the real beauty of them !

Sorry have pictures stuck in my camera ...
here you can look and read about every type of leaf !

There is about 130-140 Avs in FC with longifolia mpre than there use to be with-updates !
I imagine each has some parentage from one of the Species with Longifolia foliage !
S. difficilis (S 15) 1958 (B. Burtt) Single medium to dark blue, 5-7 per peduncle. Chartreuse, longifolia, tends to spoon, thin, deep veining, crinkled, rough, long hairs. Long, bent petiole. Usually single crown, may sucker. Standard. Saintpaulia species
OR
S. Sigi Falls Single variable blue-violet, 2-4 per peduncle, medium to difficult to bloom. Dull green, tends to look mottled, longifolia, may spoon, thick, tough, very hairy, varies in size/purple-red back. Multi-crowned. Never declared a true species. Large standard to bushy trailer. Saintpaulia species

Interesting! I have to say I am not so crazy about the spoon leaves...

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

I often wonder if Longfolia Foliage was named after
Blue Longifolia Crenulate (56) 04/28/1950 (C. Ogelby) Single medium blue. Longifolia. Large
LIKE Tommi Lou foliage was named after ;
Tommie Lou (1744) 10/25/1967 (T. Oden) Double white/light orchid center. Variegated dark green, plain, quilted. Large
Though Tommi Lou foliage has never been used in FC as a description of foliage like Longfolia is !
Yes so right Lorry were you typying while I was ? lol
S. difficilis does have Longfolia foliage . Two Species do like I posted above I'm sure plants with longfolia foliage has one of these in their parent line. !

Dillonvale, OH(Zone 6a)

ok.... I think LOL what about my Firebird? The foliage is just long and a pointed oval?

Janis (i love being able to pick your brain LOL)

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Longifolia is different than Spoon April !
In FC there about 200 plants with spooned foliage they are different than Longifolia !
One everyone knows with spooned is ;Rebel's Splatter Kake (8695) 01/31/1998 (R. Bann) Single-semidouble pink large fluted star/darker eye, purple fantasy, white-green edge. Medium green, spooned, quilted, glossy, serrated/red back. Large
AND it Sport
Rebel's Night Breezes (8693) 01/31/1998 (R. Bann) Single-semidouble dark blue large star/white ruffled edge. Medium green, spooned, quilted, glossy, serrated/red back. Standard

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Firebird NO ..
Firebird (2018) 11/14/1969 (Eyerdom) Single bright red/wide white frilled edge. Wavy. Standard

Dillonvale, OH(Zone 6a)

Ok thanks :)

How long is it gonna take for my FC to get here??? lol i'm just yearning for it here

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Now S. difficilis Specie does tend to Spoon it tends to have three types od foliage but Spooned foliage is not the same as Longifolia in these other plants.

S. Sigi Falls has longifolia but does not spoon
S. Difficilis is a Species not with spooned foliage BUT TENDS to spoon ! Like some plants tend to sucker and so on.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Gosh when did you order it ? Should not take longer than two weeks ?

Dillonvale, OH(Zone 6a)

cause I wasn't confused enough LOL

Allison you are an absolute wealth of info! Thanks so much

Janis

Dillonvale, OH(Zone 6a)

probably been that long :( hopefully soon

Janis

Missouri City, TX(Zone 9a)

Yes I knew it was not the same, only mentioned it because when I looked at the site you posted I looked at all the leaves and saw one. I don't know, there is just something about them that does not appeal to me, although I didn't realize that Splatter Kake was one, she has been on my list of wants because the flower is so lovely.

Dillonvale, OH(Zone 6a)

I remember something about 4-6 weeks now that I think about it :(( I'll look for the email

April, I'm slowly working through the names in my trade tracker... I know we had talked about a trade this spring, maybe for some sunny perennials, but I think we left it as a TBA sort of deal. In any event, I do have a Rebel's Splatterkake with your name on it, and I should also have Cherokee Trail, Irish Flirt, Buckeye Boysenberry (maybe), and
Rob’s Outer Orbit. I will Dmail you before I send these out & see if I have any others you'd like.... I'm trying for this coming Monday, but the week after Memorial Day seems more likely.

Sorry to go O/T there....

I think I have one longifolia plant, 'Rob's Whiz Bang'... I love it, but it's been a hard one for me to propagate, for no apparant reason. Hmmm... I just checked the FC description, and it doesn't say longifolia, so I wonder where I got that idea... the leaves are fairly long, narrow ovals. Oh, well!

Allison, that site was wonderful. The best I have seen in showing the difference between the leaf types.

I printed it out for a reference. Thanks so much.

It sure is a nice article for leaves. Of course I got the link out of our Sticky ! I use the sticky's each day along with First Class ! Someone ask a question I know where to go to get pictures and more info to go with my answers ! Our stickys and FC are wonderful !!
Jill Rob’s Outer Orbit could have longifolia foliage Rob does not always put all info in FC. Though the pictures I've seen on Ebay and others don't look like it.
I will have to check as it grows ! I know I bought one leaf of Rob's Zinfandel . Took forever to grow a good size baby but so cute. I know it has longifolia foliage gosh looks a lot like celery ! I sent it to Deb in hr Easter box sense it was different and can not be fount hardlt ever. I hope she likes it and it does well for her ! I almost stoled a leaf but did not so hopinf she puts one down as I know this plant and lots others I send out are hard to find !
Rob's Zinfandel (7743) 07/06/1992 (R. Robinson) Semidouble dark burgundy-red frilled. Variegated black-green and white, pointed, quilted, ruffled, serrated/red back. Semiminiature
Is the info Rob registered it with but if has longifolia foliage.
Check out the two pictures in FC. It's foliage on the one I grew for Deb was real variegated but lost most of it when it got warm :(( But I'm sure if she put a leaf down it will come up variegated !

What other plant I think has cool foliage like this is ;
Alan's Fallen Angel (A. Murphy) Semidouble white. Variegated. Miniature trailer
Another one I grew from one leaf that took forever. Worth it !

Here's a photo of my Rob's Whiz Bang... sure looks longifolia to me!

I wouldn't call Rob's Outer Orbit longifolia, though.... wonderful variegation, but the leaf shape seems pretty ordinary to me.

Oh yes sure Rob's Whiz Bang is must have the same parent as Rob's Zinfandel . Oh their both so pretty !
