Hi!
i am ordering some mints from a nursery and would like to know if they grow well in GA. Are they hardy enough during the winter? What should I do if u want them to keep growing in cold weather? Do they like poor soil or do they prefer rich soils?
Do i fertilize them? Do they grow well in GA soil? I have red/brown clay.
Thank you for any help.

advice on mints
I'm afraid I can't specifically address your questions but will pass on the warning that is always delivered to me with mints from aunt....It can be invasive, invasive, invasive. (Even in my red clay at my last house) To get it to stay put you can plant in a bottomless pot and sink the pot in the ground. Or, give it some room and let it rip!

Definitely keep them in a pot. They spread quick as kudzu (okay that is an exaggeration) but do listen to the old timers. I should've listened to my mother about mint and violets in that they are a weed. They grow in about any soil and are hardy. I think the one way to get rid of them is to shade them out with a big old oak tree.
Thank you for the advice. Pot it is!

I enjoy my mints and have found them to be very hardy in zone 8B. They died back a bit, but all I had to do is trim them up and they came back nicely for me. I *do* have them in pots on my deck but moved them under my carport for the cold months. It's not fully enclosed, though, so they still got light but were protected by the house from the cold. Hope this helps.
