Received my herbs from Richters

Cedar Springs, MI(Zone 5b)

I placed my first order with Richters in Canada and received my mint and thyme plants today.
They were ~very~ securely packaged and all look green & healthy. The soil in their pots was moist.
I guess there was some concern about this company but my experience has been good and I will most likely order from them again.

I'd ordered from them, and then read some complaints and was wishing I hadn't, but mine were in darned good shape for having been shipped from Canada to Texas! And they have an incredible variety. If I can get it more locally, I will, but I sure haven't seen any US offers of things like comfrey (which is growing so fast I think there are fairies involved...)

This is good to hear about richters, cause they have such a wonderful variety, OH to be living close by them, I'd never be at home. My experience wasn't quite so good, but they were extra quick to refund with no questions asked, which is why I went ahead and ordered again from them last year. I've stayed away from them so far this year, but it's been very hard. I really want to get some unusual herbs and that's definitely the place to get them

I've always had good luck when ordering from them as well. :) LOL about the comfrey- I started with one plant (not from them though) probably 10 years ago and keep moving divisions of them everywhere. I haven't found a place that it won't grow LOL. Don't EVER put it somewhere you won't want it later though b/c it's so hard to get rid of.

Beccalynns, that's good to know. This is my first time for comfrey; I'll make sure it's contained now. Thanks! I've been kind of neglecting them all (I'm moving in 9 days...) and it's growing by leaps and bounds.

I just got my order from Richter's too. Yes, the plants were very securely packaged. They were healthy. Thing is, only 3 of the 9 plants I ordered were sent. Plus Richter's did not intend to refund my card. Instead, they intended to put the money against my account, in case I order again. I run a business myself. This is not a normal business practice, and in fact, the credit card companies advise merchants NOT to do this. I personally don't like that they did this. I called and called and called and called, disconnected repeatedly by their problematic phone system, in order to finally get a hold of someone who, when I pinned her down, said she would refund the money to my card. It hasn't happened yet. (They credited it back today, 5/19.)

What I would like to know is why these plants they are out of can still be ordered online even though they are out of them? They need to update the site and stop advertizing plants they don't have.

I wouldn't like that either if they did that to me. :( I think I've always had my money refunded no matter what kind of company I've ordered from.

This reminds me of Hortico also in Canada.
Sometimes you get good results, sometimes you don't, so apparently its a gamble with Richters.
What other vendors has a big selection of herbs?
An alternative might be Mountain Valley Growers

Forgot to say I'm real excited about getting my Banana, Berries & Cream Oregeno -Thyme Mints and Rose Petal & Lemon Carpet Thyme from Richters.

Hmmm interesting
i oredered some herbs from them and they haven't come yet, they were supposed to be here last week, the one thing i can't stand is when something goes haycrazy an i have to spend time on the phone.
THey better not give me a credit to my account, i want money back if it does not get here with in a few more days

Gads!!
I haven't ordered from them yet just saw their website.
$40. is just way out of line unless they were big 1-2 gal. potted plants, then i could understand.

Now I'm not possitive it was them, but it seems like it was, and they don't put the shpping charges on to the order when you order on line, they add it later on and you don't see the charges . Which was why I let the order go through. I was outraged at this, badly abused so to speak, since they didn't show me the shipping charges untill they sent the p;lants to the door and I got the bill with the charges then, MAKE sure you get your shipping charges at the time of your order or don't order from them. Just to be on the safe side. They said they wouldn't refund any shipping to me as they had to pay someone to pack the plants, so I just chalked it up to terrible experience and never ordered again from them. Youknow, I"m pretty possitive it was them, cause they had a wonderful selection and the plants they sent were huge and packed well. Shipping ate my lunch though. Enough to never do it again.

Anyone try Sandy Mush? I was looking at their catalog today. They have some things I want.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

I have been to Sandy Mush several times when I lived in Asheville. Great folks, great service and plants. Terrible road up to their place so mostly they do mail order.

Thanks for reminding me about them as I will need to order many herbs for my new home!

Cedar Springs, MI(Zone 5b)

Do they ship?

Elmira, NY(Zone 6a)

They do. I made a list of things I want and am going to order them this coming week.

Update...looks like 3 of my plants from Richters croaked. :(
The leaves are dry depite me watering them and not setting them outside yet so its not from the windy days we've been having.
I emailed them for a refund. Will let you know what happens

Here is a link I found for you for additional herb nurseries. Please note that this website does not endorse any of the companies, just lists them...
