I am having a funeral this afternoon

Hanover, VA

I just walked outside to water, and could have cried. My husband had a friend of his help him cut grass yesterday, and the guy MOWED DOWN my hibiscus that were about 12 inches high. How could you not tell that was a plant???? Unfortunately I wasn't home. He left about 2-3 inches of nubs. Do you think these will make it, or is it gone? I had just sprayed it yesterday with Messenger for an added boost. Oh well. Needless to say I chewed my husband a new one for letting soemone other than him or I on our lawnmower.

I would hope they will come back. If they had started growing well, they should have pretty good roots. Will make it more "bushy". You didn't say if they were the hardy hibiscus? Mine are just showing through the ground.

Keep us posted.

Oh my .. that's almost grounds for justifiable homicide! If they are perennial hibiscus they will come back. If it's something you just planted, it might, if it had enough time to start growing new roots in its new home. The bright side is that you sprayed it with Messenger. That if anything will give it the best chance of return.

Now go outside and get some bricks or something dangerous to a lawnmower and put it beside them.

I feel for you brr. I am going through this again already too. DH got 2 of my salvia and 10 swamp azalea down by the pond last week. The worst part is he is the one that planted them for me, then tried to say he didn't, that he didn't know they were there. I have been going through this for years. Good luck. I guess if were just spend a fortune on big plants they can see they won't get run over.

You poor dear! My DH would cut my plants down if I didn't threaten him with bodily harm! I hope your hibiscus makes a comeback.

I have the same DH trouble as all of you. Last year, I started a bunch of hardy Lord & Lady Baltimore, Turn of the Century. Planted them in the fall in the ground, after they had bloomed in pots etc. This spring, my DH plowed that garden. Anything that wasn't 10' tall got plowed..........grrrr....

It should come back. Probably will make it bushier as Hibiscus mentioned above. I accidently cut down a pink ginger last year while weed eating. I stuck it in a pot and darn if it didn't root. I said I was going to weed eat them down last fall and make a big crop but never got around to doing it. Good luck with the left overs. Keep us posted.
