Well call me silly, I didn't know this stuff bloomed!

Although we've had a pond for some time and a few
basic plants, I recently acquired water hyacinth.

Today I looked out the window to find it is blooming!
Knock me silly and call me crazy, I feel like a fool having
not known that it bloomed!

LOL...you wise guy!

I went for a trip to the South American rain forests a few years ago. Imagine the sight of this stuff LINING the rivers, all in bloom, Monkeys flying over head, lizards running along the shoreline. The water hyacinth plays host to some sort of fresh water shrimp like things, and there were all sorts of exotic birds flying in and out of the water hyacinths grabbing lunch. It was incredible!

Much to my suprise when I returned home, I found out the darned stuff grew here too!!

The hyacinths are gorgeous blooms, especially if you look closely at them. They have one petal with a purple and yellow spot. Here's an old thread with a picture I posted: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/89819.html :)
