Hi I received some cuttings last year from a fellow DG'er, I successfully rooted these cuttings and potted them over winter. This spring I planted them in the ground. My question is will they survive in zone 8 outside? Out winters are mild but we do get a few frosts each year.
Thank You,
Brian
Have a question about brugs
I am new to brugs this year, but have seen other discussions on this topic. The best I can tell, if you have mild winters they should come back from the roots, but most people take cuttings anyway. I think it also depends on whether they are fairly sheltered or not. I plan to put mine in the ground and take cuttings in the fall as insurance.

I'm in Zone 8 and mine do fine in the ground. I even had a surprise of a spindly Equador Pink I put in the ground last year late Summer to get some cuttings .. had no hopes what-so-ever of it coming back .. but it did!
In the Fall, after the first freeze, most people cut theirs back to the ground and mulch it. I don't. I leave the old branches on through the winter, don't mulch and cut the old branches off once I see signs of new growth in the Spring.
And as Stownes said, before the first freeze, I always take straight, not Y'd cuttings and root them in a bubbler in the greenhouse and pot them up once rooted, just n case but they have always come back, bigger and stronger.

Thanks for all the replies, I will take cuttings this fall for insurance.
