Hi there,
Has anyone had a Clivia send up a second bloom stalk? My girl friends just quit blooming with 21 flowerettes and now she says another bloom stalk is emerging?
Should she cut off the first one?
Thanks,
Joanne
Clivia - Second bloom stalk
Yes, they can flower several times. One source I read said they can bloom between every other leaf. I have one pot with 6 heads where each bloomed, and once in a while the original one will put up another smaller stalk. I just let them bloom, but if a second stalk appears i make sure the first one (spent) is cut so that no seeds are made while it is trying to bloom again. Dry cool days make them perform the best. For tall flower stalks, don't water them until the stalk is about 1/2 grown. Constant water makes the flowers open while the stalk is still way down in the leaves.
Morning Penn_Pete,
Thanks so much for this info. I will surely pass it on.
Joanne
