I have found a place that I can get the optimara waterships for .85 cents a piece..if I buy 250
I can also get the wicks for .35 a piece if I buy 1000
Anyone want to go in on some with me?
Anyone want to order waterships with me?
Lorry
dumb question, but what are they exactly?
They are the little water containers that optimara makes for mini violets..they are like this

Ok I have seen them before and thought they looked like a great idea! but let me get this straight, they are for minis and you use wicks? If that is the case I will need some since Allison is sending me those cute little Storytellas...5 I think she said, so that means you only need to buy 245 & I will take 10 wicks, so you only need to buy 990! LOL, just kidding. Let me know if you are going to order and I will take some. The wicks don't last forever, do they? How often do you replace them?
Yup the wicks pop into the bottom and need to be bought seperately...in lots of 1000 at .35 a piece...the waterships in lots of 2.50 for .85 a piece
They have larger ones for larger plants also. I asked the lady to send me a list of what else she has available..so may be able to get the large ones also :)
And actually the wicks last a good long time :)
Studid question please.Do you leave the water in them all the time?Or do you have to take the water out when the plants had enough?
I bought one from Selective Gardners to try to see if I like. It came with wick for $3.00 . Now I had problems with mine it did not work ? My plant stayed dry. The wick was on it when I bought it and slipped in the bottom hole always touching the water. It came with diagram and directions. But the pot stayed dry and when I'd go to water other plants this plant would be stoned dry and I would have to take it and bottom water sitting in tray submerged in water like other plants. I likd the spill proof design and the way the pot sat in it but after finding my mini stoens dry twice which minis hate I threw it away. I also feel .35 cents each for a wick is too much ??
I am sorry to be negitive about this product I just want to let you know what happen to me. Has anyone else used them and watered with just this method ? How did it work out for you ?
I went back to my 6-7 cents each 2 inch sturdy round white pots aand I wick them never a problem !
That's not stupid...I am the one w/ the stupid questions. I believe that you leave the water in all the time and the wick along w/ the very light growing medium regulates the amount of water that actually gets to the plant.
I'd love to have all my AVs in this type of pot- I have to say that my NOIDS, which are in those pot in a pot types bloom all the time. I think it is because they are evenly moist and never have too much or too little. Also, I put the same fertlized water in the well so they are constantly being fed. The ones that I bought at HD, when I only had 2 AVs, were about 6.95 or 7.95 each. It's not so expensive when you only buy 2 and when you buy them months apart, but if I had to buy one now for each of my AVs- and I don't really have all that many, I'd probably have to sell one of the kids...hmm not a bad idea! Seriously if they have the larger ones at a good price that would be worth it to me so I would be interested in knowing the details Lorry.
Thanks.
Hmmm something to think about. The ones I bought at HD were that stone type and they do work great, but again too costly for more than one or 2.
you do leave water all the time. Their a clear plastic and pot terrcotta color plastic. SP very nice set up.,, I was hoping to love them but my plant stayed dry I had it set up right. Thats why I tried one first.
Yes and their too large . You need 2 inch pots for miniatures good drainage which the stone like ceramic does not have. I'd but one from Selective gardners and try first.
Lorry, does that 85 cents include the perfectly sized pot to fit into the well?
What diameter are the pots?
Have you used this type of wicked container?
I wonder if it's really necessary to use their wicks.... you might have better luck using whatever you use now for wicking, not to mention acrylic yard or mason's string is less expensive for sure.
Thanks for shopping around and finding this deal, Lorry!
Actually I love the waterships :) and they have been working well for me :)
They are 2.5 I believe for minis but asked her if they haev different sizes :)
and nope..you could use your own wicks..it is just a tub with a hole in the bottom
I think the pots were 2 inch Lorry from Selective gardeners no ? Are they made the same or the same ? They have a little plastic thing that goes up the sife indised the pot for the wick. I think useing your own wick would be helpful
Lorry do you have any pictures of your plants in them > How long have they been growing in them. Take pictures of different parts to see pots better and how they work. I wonder if Nanna uses them ?
Here on Optimara you can see them . Are they the same Lorry ?

#WS2P1 - Watership with 2 IN Pot
The Optimara WaterShip is a spill-proof self-watering device for 2 in Miniature Violets that takes the guess-work out of watering. It comes with the pot and wicklock.
$3.00 each
>>>
They have smaller ones also 1 1/2 inch for the micro lovers !
I tried the two inch.
They also have the extra Extra 2 IN Wicklock- Set of 10
The 2 in wicklocks have the perfect fit and absorbent nylon thread for use with the 2 in watership or any 2 in self-watering ceramics.
if so I can see why their 35 cents each is a good price for them. These are different than using you own. Nut I think if I used my own might have done better ?
Take a look at the web sight see how the wicks in the pots lock in . Their different.
OH PS the Wick lock extra sets are $2.50 but this is for ten of them.
Yup those are the ones...the waterships :)
Actually, I'd be even more interested in the 1 1/2 inch pots.... but I suppose we'd have to order those 250 at a time also!
I could probably use 25 of each size.... and I may bump that number up once I take a good look at my AV shelves, LOL. They would be good to have for any little minis that I gave away, also.
I guess if you ended up ordering 250 pots of 2 or 3 different sizes, then it might make sense to order 1000 wicks to go along with them.... but that seems like a whole lot of extra wicks to me! Well, if you order wicks, I'll take some... I'd probably be more convinced of their worth if I'd tried out their system before.
Keep me posted!
Thanks!
I adore them but have had mixed reviews (like Allison's) I love em for my minis though
