I put down some EverGrace leaves a while back. I did the usual, and slanted them back so the babies would grow in the front. They were very big leaves and I had not heard about cutting the tops of the leaves off of the big ones. So I've been waiting this whole time to get some leaves. And I just found some, a lot of them. They were hidden in the back of the leaves. Here is how I had the arranged.

Hidden babies
I will be splitting some of them up today, the ones that are really big since they are not getting any light because of the momma's being so big. Do you think I should take them out of what they are in and cut the leaves off so the little babies can get more light?
Jesse
What I do when I set my leaves is put them into the middle of the cup straight up. I always have lots of babies front and back. What I do is wait until after rooted and babies coming up to trim top of leaves on large Mom's. As babies grow if needed I trim Mom's again.
I also use larger cups 3,5 oz. giving these large growing babies more room. I do not take them from Mom until they are big but I will take Mom and babies together and put them into fresh soil, into a larger cup/pot to further their growth together. Just like a Mom who is pregnant as she grows she needs larger size close these Mom need larger cups/pots.
Way to go, Jesse. I just found a bloom on the first plant I have ever grown from a leaf. : ) woo hoo. Allison, great info. I had never heard some of that. I sent Nanna a leafpot from one of the leaves you gave me. : ) Too fun!
WOW Pam that's great ! Good growing ! I have seen lots of leaf pots on Ebay sell for big bucks.
Those cheeky little buggers, hiding from their mom like that! Great Growing!
What is a leafpot? Any photos?
Jesse
Jesse, what you have pictured are called leafpots. Just a mom with babies yet to be separated from their mom!
You have leafpots galore! =)
Thanks for telling me that. I thought it was some special kind of pot to grow leaves in. I'm so silly sometimes.
Jesse
Look at all the treads with your babies. You go girl!!!!!
Jesse,
Love all your babies! I have had some hiding behind Mom, also. It's so much fun to find them :-)

Last night all of the moms got a hair cut. I had to trim most of them completely down to just a tiny thing because the babies were growing all the way around them. No light was getting to them and they were turning white. So most of the moms got cut way back. I hope that I did not cut too much away but there was just no way for the babies to get any light with mom in the way. There were a couple that had only a little baby so I left a lot of it.
There was one thing that I did notice that I wish I had documented with my camera. The bigger the leaf was, the bigger the babies were. I'm not sure if it did this because it was a Space baby or not. But the ones with the biggest and most babies were the ones that had the biggest leaves. Just thought I would mention this to see if anyone else has noticed anything like this before. Have any of you ever noticed anything like this?
Here they are now, growing in light and they act happy to finally "see the light".
The mom that these came from was not looking very good at all. She had bloomed but she was looking bad. I finally figured out that she was in a 4" pot and it was scruntching up all the leaves. And not only that, but it was in one of the self-watering pots that I do not use anymore becaue they are way too deep. Since I have taken the mom out of that pot and put her in a 5" pot, she is looking much better. Her leaves are starting to relax and she is looking good now. She still has a way to go but she is so happy to be out of that pot. I have about 4 others in those pots and I either want to replace them or put them in a regular 4" pot until I have the money to replace them. So my advice to you using those really deep pots, don't use them. They just don't do well with the AVs that I have had them in.

Just becareful not to take too much of Mom's away too early babies may die.
Standard/Large leaf plants grow large they will have larger babies. And like wise Miniature plants grow mini their leaves with be tiny always, and Semi-Miniature leaves will be in-between as they grow 6-8 inches at maturity though many of mine seem to grow smaller . Or maybe it's beacasue I'm always taking leaves off of them to share.
If some of th ebabies leaves are turning white, give them some fish emulsion or epson salts. They should go back to their natural colour.
Good help Anna ! Fish drink always gives my babies a happy jump to !
But get rid of Mom leaf too early can be a problem.
What does Epsom Salt do?
Yes, pdoyle, epson salts is used to make leaves greener.
Thanks Anna. Is the fish emulsion something that Home Depot might have? Also, how much Epsom salt do you use?
Jesse
I got mine from HD. It is called Alaska.
I do not remember how much epsom to use. I read it somewhere. Sorry.
Try fhis emulsion. I had some white babies and they got better with it.
good luck
Thanks Anna. I will go by HD today and get some for my babies.

Jesse, prepare your nose for that. It smells like rotten fish but it is great for the plants. I water mine twice a month with it.
I buy mine from Gardenalive.com the smell goes away fast. It come concentrate foliage spray I don't spray I water with it. BEWARE give this too much to variegated foliage you will lose the variegation.
Thanks for letting me know about the smell. I will get DH aware before I do it.
