oops and ouch

Monticello, MN(Zone 4b)

I just bought myself a beautiful dark red begonia. I got it home fine but tripped!!!! Ouch! and OOPS, one of the big stems snapped off. Anyway I can save the stem? I know you can propagate the leaves. Will it root in water? I know, I know... wishful thinking..... HELP!

I've read to cut the large veins on the back, lay leaf flat on top of potting mix and weigh or pin it down so veins make good contact with potting mix. I've tried it but it didn't work for me. I've also see a link where they cut the leaf up and put it in a baggie of moist vermucilite but I haven't tried that. I've rooted tons of "Looking Glass" in water and rhizone types by taking a piece and planting it about half way ..like a iris...duck sitting on water. I'm a newbee begonia grower so maybe not the best advice.

Just saw this thread. I have found that begonias are very forgiving. Just stick a stem in moist, not wet, poting soil and you should be fine. Just just any amount of plant in the soil and it should do something.

Are you planing to put this in the ground after frost?
