Like I Needed More Babies
Good luck, Larkie. Hope there are more than 1 or 2. Would love a few chickens, but do not see it in the immediate future. BAM
Well, these 6 make me about 35 now and I love them all..
larkie
what's not to love about them?

Im an addict, too! I have all my baby, bantams intergrated with the 4 older ones now! So what do I do?
Three more eggs in the incubator, I just cant eat those sweet little things.
That makes 21 assorted bantams, and 1 Barred rock and 1 Astrolorpe (Hens)!
Oh and for you all that remember the Mama and baby Hardrock story,They are both just fine!! Little Hard Rock is living up to her name too!
I had a hen come off the nest today..... She has eleven babies..My 25X40 pen is getting smaller...Will try for a pic tomorrow..

Am I the only person in the world that feeds her chickens a specially blended concoction ,that I process in my kitchen everyday, of vegetable and fruit peelings?
I got worried ,now that theyhave to be confined because of predatorial dogs, that they were not getting enough nutrients. I figure with the garden soon to be producing a bounty of vegetables that I could share with my Chickys. I even include a treat of bird seed!
Here is what hatched at my house in the last 24 hours. The are a mix of Barred Rocks, Rhode Island Reds, Wyandottes, and Plymouth Rocks. I hatched them out in an incubator I bought at the feed store...more on the way. The incubator is sitting at my feet as I type this ..... I can hear more chirping coming from in there. The kids are totally fascinated by this.

Oh My, OH My,This just isnt a good thing for my addiction!! Aren't they just the cutest things? I just love them, especially the Chipmonkey ones, Are those RI's or what, toooo cute!
Eufaula:
I'm not sure what they are. I have a Rhode Island Red rooster and a Columbian Wyandotte rooster. The hens are RIR, Barred Rocks, Plymouth Rocks......so I may have Rhode Island Wyandottes, Plymouth Reds, Barred Red Wyandottes....I don't know....LOL
The rust colored ones in the pic are mostly Rhode Island Reds, the ones with more white are probably from the Wyandotte, and the Black ones are probably from the Plymouth Rocks.
Mercy, If the mama's dont mind I dont!Hee Hee!!!
Oh their mama right now is a 100 watt light bulb!
Well Im still waiting on my "Kids", I know the oldest one will be here soon 'cause I did my Granny's trick of removing the top of the egg just around the air pocket, then dropping a tiny drop of sterile water on the skin. That makes the skintransparent to see the chick! Its well and stirring , just lazy and cozy , waiting on its own good time to hatch!
Well Im very sad again today ! I lost all my chicks ! The temp in the inky for some unkown reason shot up to 110*. All the time Ive been caring for them manually turning 3 and4 time daily, then here it was time to hatch ,no turning, and the heat killed them! Im just sick! No More incubator for me, Im not going to go through that again! I was candling every 3rd day to make sure every one was on schedule and I was even talking to them in the shell...........So sad,so sad........Hope none of you have to go through this! I have just got to quit making them my babies before they get here!
So sorry, eufaula. That's awful. After all your care, too.
Thanks Zeppy, Im a grown Woman, and Im still upset! Im just glad that the grands didnt know about the new ones!
Eufaula:
I am sorry to hear about your misfortune. Could someone have accidentally turned up the thermostadt? Better luck next time.
Keith
Thanks Y'All , No Keith, my little inky was just one of those tinylittle round ones for hatching a very few eggs and up to 6 bantam eggs! It only had a small light bulb for heat no thermo. I even put into a terrarium to regulate the heat so it would maintain 100*, and it was doing very well . For some unknown reason it surged and hit 110*. I couldnt have been 30 minutes to late in finding this out but by then the chicks had perished!
Does any body know if a White Silkie rooster would breed with a Barred Plymouth Rock. She's over a year old now. Got her last fall just before she started laying. Got the silkie rooster along with 2 hens this spring just as they started laying and breeding. The rooster does not seem to want to go any where near the BPR - she's kind of a bully. Will it get any better?
