I purchased a ( myosotis scorpioides ) water for-get-me-not plant for my small goldfish pond. I had planned to put it in one of those floating planters but wondered if it could be planted in the bog area next to the pond. I have never grown this but love for-get-me-nots. Is there someone on the list who actually grows this plant and could advise me? I don't mind it if spreads a bit. I just wasn't certain if I could submerge it in the water or if I should plant it in the bog. Thanks.
Water for-get-me-nots -Need planting directions
I've seen it grown in ponds, but have never planted it myself (it's one I'd like, too). I did find this, though:
Easily grown in organically rich, consistently moist to wet soils in full sun to part shade. Grows in up to 3” of standing water. Plant in containers in water gardens. Plant directly in the muddy banks of streams or ponds at the water line. Plants will spread by creeping rhizomes but are not overly aggressive. Pinch young plants to promote bushiness.

Have it in my bog. Great for 2 years. I haven't seen it this year.
Dave
Thanks.
I started with one plant five years ago. Now I have it in the pond, around the pond, in boggy areas, in "bog-pots".... Northwest GA.
It comes back year after year after year and is really pretty around the edges of the pond.

Hi - thought you might like to see a couple of pics. I have forget-me-nots on both a floating island, and along the edge of the pond. I planted them in early spring and they have not stopped blooming! No work at all, beyond putting a fertilizer tab next to them about a month ago. Very pretty tiny blue flowers. They've become a favorite of mine - Dax
Here's on the island with a pond ball -
Cool island. Where did you get it or how did you make it?
Dave
Hi, Dave47 - I got it at a pond expo in Cedar Rapids, IA about a month and a half ago. The company is out of Des Moines and makes different sizes, etc. This one is about 2 1/2 feet by 2 feet. They had pictures of ones as big as 5-6 feet for BIG ponds. Haven't been able to duplicate the material, so I'm glad I got it. If you're interested, I can get the info for you - it's out in the potting shed so will need to wait till tomorrow - Dax
Thanks Dax. I would like to get one a little smaller than yours.
I'll send along the info tomorrow - I know they ship - and that they have smaller ones, too. They also send the planting material, which is a BIG help. They have a ring on the underside for the tether. I've just got mine anchored with fishing line and a cement block. - Also, randbponder has made one of his one. He actually has pots set into it - pretty cool. - Dax
When we first bought our forget-me-nots, the water garden guro we bought from instructed us to use ankle high panty hose(cheap dollar store ones) and put a little dirt in the foot of the hose, plant the forget-me-not in the dirt, tie a string aroung the top so just the plant top is out of the hose, anchor the string under a near by rock and put it in the side of the pond. We bought three plants, and did as he told us. We have them lining the pond, and all along the small stream to the pond. I love them and the color is really cool. Lou
I'll be darned...I never thought of doing that, Lou! We don't have much shelf space in our little pond, and I only have room for a few marginals. If I did that with the pantyhose, I could anchor a few plantsbeneath the edges of the rocks I have partially submerged along the sides. Cool!
Oops, sorry, Dave47 - had a visit today from RandBponder and got caught up and didn't get your info - won't forget tomorrow! (By the way, had a wonderful time!!) - Dax
No problem.

Oh, Thanks much nDebt, cause I couldn't find the information for you, Dave47. So Sorry - I was sure I had it in the Potting Shed but couldn't find it anywhere - So I'm glad you got some sites - I think I'll go take a look myself. - Dax
Thanks Deb & Dax!
