It's soooooo gorgeous. I haven't seen one in real life. I got some plants from ebay but they're so tiny. How do you care for them? thanks.

Hi ed,

They need to be planted in a quite shady spot which keeps fairly moist. They do like humousy soil, although I haven't added any to the spot it is under the edge of a large Horse Chestnut tree, and at the base of a low bank. Mine took a few years to really get going properly, once they increase they can get invasive, but that doesn't matter if they are in a place they can colonise. I started with a single row I had moved from elsewhere I think in 1999. They will send out runners and make new crowns. Last year was the first year they didn't die back in the summer, I used to fill in with Impatiens but no room now. The flowers do last a long time when established, but do take some time to flower properly. They flowered very well this year, and quite well last year.

They don't need to be planted very deep, about 1" is sufficient. Good luck!

We have had this for I don't know how many years and it has never flowered. Spread, yes. But no flowers.

pepper, mine didn't really flower until last year, although there were a few flowers there was nothing like a good full bed of them. That's 6 years! I do wonder if the small amounts of compost I kept putting in with the impatiens helped, that is a mix of my own compost which is leafy, with some peat moss compost. I also gave the impatiens a very occasional liquid feed of tomato food, high in P&K, so that may have helped too.
