Beautiful Girl from Canada

Silver Spring, MD

I went to HD to buy petunias. Look what jumped into my basket. Isn't she gorgeous!

Very pretty. I don't want to start in on my HD but I wouldn't be able to find an AV that looked that healthy at mine.
Lucky find.

Nanna,
She is a beauty! Congratulations.

Must be Mother's Day.

Oohh, maybe you are right; I better run down and see if these yohos have ordered anything for moms! There maybe hope!

Becareful ~ Someone from our DG forum bought a lot of African violets in bloom from Selective Gardner's Optimara.( You know where we bought Annabelle ) She said they were full of Thrips ~
She did not complain ~ I would have called them and let them know for sure.
Thrips can jump ... They can be on your clothes so just isolate and be careful bringing these new plants 251ito your home pee !
Beutifu enjoy !

It's very pretty,nana.

It I paid Selective Gardner prices and was shipped thrips, you'd better believe I would complain big time.

Why should I pay for thrips. They're usually free.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Nanna I feel the same way. I'd also want them to know so they can treat. Thrips and their viruses they carry can wipe out a whole collection. This way they could treat and hopefuly not send them to anyone else.
This peep buys a lot too $$$ but she is just so kind.
Just a nice reminder from me to everyone does not mater where you get them from when you have them .
" Ouch"

ROTFL!

Pretty AV, Nanna! I can't believe you "needed" another one, though.... OK, well, yes I can! LOL

Looks similar to my "Rosie Girl" noid (the one you thought & I agreed needed repotting), which is one of my favorites! I've got some more little plantlets coming along in leaf pots if anyone else wants one (probably later in the year... still pretty small).

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

LOL...I am the one Ms Allison is talking about.
I put them outside and treated the heck out of them
I didn't see a point in complaining.
And well they all look pretty good at this point.

Nanna, that could also be Optimara Meg. I got mine from HD and it is similar to yours!

Silver Spring, MD

Could be. I understand that Canada is now offering Optimara violets but without the label on them.

Meg is a beautiful plant. And it keeps its shape.

Well just to let you know, it was very hot here today and muggy would be an understatement, but I dragged my oldest and my grandson w/ me to HD, hoping that in prep for Mother's Day there would be something...but no, everything was dead! Literally. It's not just the AVs...which looked so bad they were almost unrecognizable, but in the garden section they had all the hydrangeas in full sun along w/ the impatients and it didn't look like they'd watered in days.

I just can't take it anymore, it's wrong!!!

Then went to Walmart, just for grins and oh my god they were not much better- half of their AVs were in the trash and the rest were nothing to write home about. I was so despondent that I took my grandson into the toy department and we played w/ the nosiest toys for 20 minutes!

Ok, sorry but I had to rant. I just can't go into those stores anymore...it's just too depressing and I don't want to have to start taking prozac!

Silver Spring, MD

Dear One, Makes me sad that the manager of the garden center can't get it together. Everytime I buy something at HD I get a call from customer service wanting to know if I was satisfied with the merchandise and the workers.

Maybe you and your neighbors should start a "kick some butt" stratigy and let the garden manager know you are displeased and tell them you are writing to corp. headquarters.

I'm ranting for you!! Keep the prozac on the shelf. The pen is mightier than the prozac!!

Annabelle is on Special again for short time ! I took pictures of mine this morning. I took at least 6-8 leaves off put down. She is in many blooms again and zillions of buds that look like blueberries ! Even with leaves gone she is very big. I will be taking two more off to send to Jill.
I will show new pictures later !
Here is your chance to get one ! Exclusive on line only .

I thought they were coming out of Canada a long time ? And sold there also ? I forget time but remeber one of their big greenhouses here burned down. One year ago two ?

Silver Spring, MD

I have had trouble with mildew on Annabelle since she came. I think she caught cold and is taking her time to recover. I also have tons of blooms but have to keep close watch for mildew. She is truely a beautiful plant. Very nicely shaped and beautiful bell blooms. The leaves are dark, luscious, and very heavily veined with pointed tips.

Anyone else had trouble with mildew this year?

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

I had tiny bit tiny one second used Lysol zap gone. I also have a fan going .
I was lucky and impressed Annabelle arrived in perfect condition !

Silver Spring, MD

I never have a lot. I think I see it as soon as it is there. I think as soon as the weather warms a little it will be ok. It's just a bother.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Air circulation helps. If yu let it get bad it can caue damage. I'm like you I see it right away and got rid of it.

Silver Spring, MD

I have a fan in the av room. I keep it on when the lights are on. I read in the AV Mag that during the colder months it is a good idea to not wick your plants. The water in the wells become too cold. Guess I will have to think about that for this coming winter.

Drumheller, AB(Zone 2a)

Hi Nan!

Very pretty and it just blows my mind how they just pop into our carts!

TFS!

You know, that is so right!!!! Jill and I spent the day in PA at the Violet Gallery. I bought 11 (my mother's day gift from Bill). I had no intention of bring one more violet home and wham bang there it was in my cart and out to the car without batting an eye.

Holy Cow!!!!

Missouri City, TX(Zone 9a)

Nanna, spookie how that happens.
