Does anyone know what variety this is?

Tampa, FL(Zone 10a)

I got this as a gift a year or so ago.

The blooms on it are so big and pretty, almost tulip shaped when first opening. Does anyone know what variety it may be?

Please forgive me if its something very typical. I'm definitely not an expert, but have just never had one with blooms this big!

I have no idea about the name...but that flower sure is pretty!! I know the experts will show up soon and they will most likely tell you that unnamed AVs are pretty hard to track down. But watch out, this is exactly how I became addicted to both AV's and the group of folks on this thread :)))

So welcome and I hope you will catch the AV "fever"!!

OOOOOH, very pretty! I am not one of the experts so I can't give you any information, only my opinion that that is lovely.

I Welcome to our wonderful forum ! Most of us all came here we had no African violets or just Noids. African violet without a name NO ID.
Hope you stay around lots of caring sharing people here. African violets are like chips can't have just one !
I am sorry to say if it came without a name it's a NOID !
I fount this in our sticky ~

** How can I identify my noid (= no ID) AV?

A: You can't. It is not possible to make a firm identification from photographs or descriptions. There are over 15 thousand ( and over 30 thousand name African violets ) registered varietiesin First Class, the colors in photos can be inaccurate, and descriptions of colors (especially "blue" or "red") are pretty subjective. Many "supermarket" AV's are grown from seed rather than propagated vegetatively, so they won't have a name. While it can be fun to try to see which variety your AV "looks like," it's a good idea to use terms such as "lookalike" or "noid" on your plant labels when you didn't purchase a plant with a name tag.

Thanks for the info and the welcome :)

I'm not so much worried about identifying exactly what this particular plant is, as much as trying to find out what it resembles. I love the large flowers and would like to find some more!

Does the flower have patches of white or is it the light hitting it ? If patches there are several it could look like.

Tampa, FL(Zone 10a)

That's just the light. It's a very uniform, soft shade of light blueish purple.

If you go to any of the AV vender web sites you will see pictures or read descriptions that will help you pick the AV (or 10 or 20-LOL) that will make you happy.

The other place to look at pictures is the AVSA web (African Violet Society of America). They have a large number of pictures that you can look through.
Good luck.
