need help with banana's

Kellyville, OK(Zone 7a)

My DW's boss gave me two banana trees yesterday. She hired a gardener last fall to dig up and store about 100 banana trees, and he wrapped and taped them tight in black plastic bags. These are the only two that did not rot entirely. The corms and roots seem solid, but some of the trunks that was wrapped in plastic has some black slime. Can I save them? Please Help. Thanks..... John

cut off the stems & plant the corms...they will pup again.

those look strong enough. stick them in the ground, full sun and watch them grow. Water but be careful not do overdo it, especially as there are some soft spots on it. But they will dry up as it gets hot. As winter nears, keep a close watch on Daves Gardens and you will see all kind of advice on protecting your nanas. No need to pull them out but do need to protect.

enjoy!

Also Black Plastic is absolutely the worst way of storing them.
Next time just wrap them in burlap or newspaper.
You can even let them bare root if you're real careful.
They need to breath and shed water.
That plastic created the perfect environment for mold, mildew and fungus.

I agree 100% Ric. Her so called gardener cost her all of her banana trees. Thanks to all. John
