Talked to Ed and he said that since I grew it out and flowered it, I could name it anything I wanted. Soooooo, lets have a Contest.
The prize will be a nice big cutting of the plant...or I will root a big cutting for the winner. Their choice.
Everyone gets to submit names. As many as you want. We will close the contest next Thursday at noon my time. Then I will open a thread to vote ... everyone gets to vote on the one they like best (and if you vote for YOUR name no one will win, right?). The winner will be announced Next Sunday Night. Get people from other forums to vote too.
The name will become an unofficial name as publication may not happen for a long time...I am way too busy!!!
OH GOODY-A contest
....forgot to say that cultivar names cannot be latin or latinized...only species names...Sorry about that slip of the mind. 8>)

One thing I learned from Chris Burton is that hard to pronouce words ... actually Kalani is easy but no one else knows what it means...and obscure names aren't a good as familiar or people's names... maybe cv. EDna? cv. EDwina?
This message was edited May 8, 2006 4:38 PM cv. Edie?

Hoya cv. Edward, Eddy?
Its red/pink hues remind me of a sparkling Sangria wine, so I dub it ' H. sangria'.

If not, I think it's about time...and appropriate!

Carol - good point about hard to pronounce names. I have NO IDEA how to say what I suggested! But heck, half the names of hoyas out there, I don't know how to say! ha ha
The one called "Nummularoides" or whatever, my sis and I don't know how to say it so we call it "hoya numbnuts". =0)
......Or since she has a big sister with a French name,
cv. 'Rosé '
cv. 'étoile rose'
cv. 'Aimée'
Matt
that's exactly where I was headed, Matt - you beat me to it:
French girl names....little sister of Monette....
Hoya cv. Monique
...although if it was going to be named after somone, cv. Carol tops it!
Okay, since my "star" was stolen I might as well come up with one more:
cv. Hawaian Star
Christina
cv. Juliette
cv. Nicole (a combination of Carol & Noel)
OK Betsy I'll race ya!! LOL
cv. 'Yvette'
cv. 'Collette'
cv. 'Jeanette'
cv. 'Suzette'
Matt
H. cv. Kiana
for no other reason than I think Kiana is a nice name... :)
Edit: ooops, not a good ending, -ana ? Sounds like it is latinized, or..? Or again, can you say it is an ending in this particular case...?? Confusing...my latin is NOT good
