Integrating the rain barrel

I just bought a bright blue plastic rain barrel. It's a recycled industrial barrel---the city inherited several, cleaned them up, added spigots, overflow tubes, and mosquito netting, and sold them for $20 on Earth Day.

I don't know yet where it is going to end up in the yard---possibly at a corner of a new garage that will be built this summer. I am trying to decide whether to try to disguise/hide it with plants or to paint it some interesting way to match (or complement) its surroundings.

So I am wondering if/how others have integrated rain barrels into their garden designs?
