Caladium pod thingy??

Como, TX(Zone 7b)

I'm a newbie gardener, and I'm really hoping this isn't a dumb question... What is this pod thingy coming up in my caladiums?

That's a bloom all Caladiums produce, it doesn't do anything but take energy away from the plant. I cut them off diagonally at the base with some sharp shears. The bulb will re-direct it's energy to producing more leaves.

Looks like one of the pod people from Night of the Living Dead.

Thanks. Yeah I looked today and it's starting to open up into a bloom...kind of like one of those closet plants - or peace lillies. I've got to repot it, and I'll cut the bloom off. Don't know what a newbie gardener does without a place like this.
