This is buds on my H. imperialis. I don't know how many times - at least ten - I've found buds in my imperialis...but it has always aborted them... :((
It's when the buds have reached about this far that they usually shrivel up and fall. They turn a little reddish-brown and fall off.

So, pleeeease, whish me luck this time =)!

My H. wallichii on the other hand is a nice and kind hoya :) It opened up its buds today.

Very pretty Lotta-I just love that colour! I can almost smell them from here. I agree, that spray of red reminds me if fireworks too.
