Oh ALLISON!

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

Hey girl
I just got back from Chris' palm guys house (ugh) several hours in 93 degree heat (laugh) it always takes us forever to get outta there..
But anyhow! He has a trailer bromeliad I just HAD TO HAVE
So I asked him if he would sell me some.
He handed me his pruners and said don't massacre it too bad :)
So I took a couple of cuttings.
I thought you might like one of the cuttings also :) since this is SOOOO pretty and does SOOO WELL here in FL :) they look great just in the crotch of a tree :)

It looks very similiar to this

But it not as bright of a red :) It is more a pink with white and green. I have been told if you put it in full sun it gets more red :)

Anyhoooooo....let me know :)

It's a trailing bromeliad? I have never heard of that. Very pretty!

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

Yup..they are on runners :) which shoot out with pups on the end :) they are quite cool :) I had first seen them at the botanical gardens and then went hunting for some of my very own. I have one very similiar that is all a cherry red color :) a recent acquisition from the local bromeliad sale I paid like 5.00 for that one :) it is still tiny but has a couple of trailers :)
The fireball (this one) I had only seen for like 30.00 which I am too cheap for :) So when Steve told me to cut some out and then wouldnt' let me pay for it I was astounded :) then again my husband always spends a small fortune there (laugh)

I actually got a fair amount of this ...Do they grow in Texas? I am sure I could spare an extra pup for you also April if you like :)

I think that most of the time people here pot them and leave them outside for the warm part of the year and then bring them in as it gets cold...well lets say, less warm...in the winter. I would love a pup if you have one to spare! I have never seen trailing/running bromeliads! If you have one to spare hang on to it for a few weeks, I will be out of town but will let you know when I return. I am not confident that either of my daughters would be the best recipient.
Thanks.
