Going to try my hand at seeds! Oh my! Have any of you tried.

Lucama, NC(Zone 7b)

I am getting in a shipment of Mighty plant, messenger and messenger seed enhancer...have any of you tried these products on Plumerias? Have you tried it on the seeds?? Also, I got the Plumeria book by Jim Little and it shows his seeds sitting in what seems to be perlite only?? Has anyone tried this and had success?? I keep seeing different ways...what do you know that WORKS?? Thanks in advance!

Bev,
I have several different lots of seeds in the germination process right now - my first time. I wanted to see what was going on, so I put the seeds inside paper towels in plastic boxes. My difference was that I used hydrogen peroxide to thoroughly moisten, just to runoff, the towels. Hydrogen peroxide will somewhat surface sterilize the seeds and the oxygen given off as it breaks down may help reluctant seeds to germinate. We keep our house about 80 (it IS Louisiana) so I did not use bottom heat. I checked the seeds morning and evening and transferred them to 3 inch pots as soon as root tips emerged. I am trying my homemade pinebark/perlite soil mix with extra perlite (so it is almost 1/2 perlite). Most of the seeds have pushed out roots, but I had one bad lot where almost half swelled and broke apart. The seeds in pots are now in the greenhouse and I am waiting for emergence - I only potted up the first ones May 3, from sowing on April 30.

Hi Bev! There are many different ways to start seeds, and most of them work! They need warm soil or a warm medium in the case of Perlite, heat, and light, and they need to be reasonably fresh; although, I've heard of two-year-old seeds germinating. Sometimes, I just sow directly in soil, and other times, I start using the papertowel method. Ok...I worded that one wrong! I know you guys have tried plenty of seeds and have tremendous results! I was asking if any of you tried the Messenger, Mighty Plant or the Messenger Seed Enhancer?!?!

Plumiedelphia, PA(Zone 7a)

This week I shall LOL!!
Im spraying everything with messenger.

Lucama, NC(Zone 7b)

Great Michael, can you please post the results? I ordered some as well! I know you are a whole lot of steps in front of me! lol

Plumiedelphia, PA(Zone 7a)

My friend Micah used it and his inflos were about 3 times larger than previous years.
The flowers colors were much more robust and the plants seemed healthier looking overall.
I sprayed my garden entirely with Messenger / Spray and Grow mixture, I added cocowet and a lil touch of food as well.
Ill keep yall posted when things seem to be 'popping'
I may not post after tomorrow till about Saturday as I am going in for surgery on Wed.
I havent heard any negative reports on messenger and in fact have heard all spectacular.
I reccomend it based on what ive seen and heard.
I used a sample package and made 1 gallon to do my property, I spray all my plants not just plumies.
If its in the ground it gets a dose.
Flowers are generally quite nice here.
Im told frequently by passersby that I have the most beautiful garden in the nieghborhood.
A lil touch of paradise I call it heh.... :^P

Michael? Surgery? Huh? You'll be in my prayers!!

Plumiedelphia, PA(Zone 7a)

Yah thanks,
Corrective sinus surgery.
It is a common procedure with great results.
I am shaking in my boots with dread of the recovery period.
Please send all available pain pills to:
Ill have plenty ... I hope heh....
This willl suppossedly end my vicious cyle of chronic sinus infections and help my asthma.
I am also moving out of this area to get away from all the allergens here, like mold and mildew especially.. anyway.....
Back to our sponsors.....

Wow Michael, sorry you are having such a rough time with the allergies! I will keep you in my prayers as well! My son has it pretty bad as well, I feel awful for him when it hits. He also has a mild case of asthma. Thank you for the info about Messenger, I ordered some and wanted to know if you or anyone had good experiences with it. Now I won't hesitate to use to on all my plants! I am sure your neighbors appreciate the view, and isn't it nice to have your own little paradise to enjoy with your sweetie?! Again, I hope the surgery goes well, keep us posted as soon as you are able!

Sorry Michael...I work for a shrink...no pain pills but let me know if you feel anxious or depressed. Disclaimer: this is a joke - I am not a Dr nor play one on TV and do NOT dispense meds. Will dispense prayers as needed...promise.

Always need them and I never refuse kindness from friends either.
