Are Agapanthus hardy for you? I really don't know, but very cool if they are. If they are, picture 3' - 5' tall spikes of globes of violet or white or dark blue growing from lush strap foliage that is virtually indestructible - but be sure to buy the full size species and not the miniatures. One must be careful only about believing the purveyors of these plants. It is an excellent plant for any border where the ground does not freeze and there is enough water to give it to drink. Otherwise grow it in a tub. It has an excellent form both in leaf & in flower.
Thanks,Rosemary, its the large type, and I have never grown one before, and didn't know what to expect,as to wheather it would croud a bed of flowers,or dwarf them.I love the looks of agapanthus, now to find companion plants. Thanks again, Mike

Another type of agapanthus that is not widely grown is inapetus. ishardier than the evergreen type because it is deciduous. Has very deep blue/purple flowers in smaller umbels than africanus. Great cut flower and makes lot of seed. Hard to come by, not widely grown, worth the search tho. All agapanthus reseed them selves here in FL, but not a pest plant. I wish they wouldn't always come in the mid blue color when they reseed.
