Good evening!
Well I finally have gotten things sorted out with my new purchases and I also bought some table top lights for 10.00 each. You can fit two trays vertically side by side or one tray horizontally.
I was like a kid in the candy store. I started taking some pictures but I was afraid I would miss out on the sales table so I never took many.
One thing I didn't realize is that if you wanted to buy any of the show plants that were for sale, you couldn't pick them up until the next day so that took all the fun out of that and there were some beauties that I would have loved to bring home.
I will upload a Species grotei that won court of honor or however you say that. That was my friend's so she was really tickled pink about that.
I left home at 7 AM as the drive is about two hours...got there at 9 AM and of course sales didn't start till 10 AM but I asked around and a few of the gals would let you set plants aside so that was good. I bought this tiny little violet called Morgan's Mediterranean Escape (s/m) I can't find any info on it in FC2. I think it was called....so cute. will get a photo of it tomorrow...too dark now. Bought a Buckeye Especially Mine and Buckeye Extravaganza....oh I love those Buckeye's of Pat Hancock's! That Buckeye Extravaganza is just breath taking! The Especially Mine is a baby plant and I repotted it too.
Got Precious Pink and Precious Purple I think the other one is called. I repotted Precious Pink so she is looking kind of droopy right now.
Got two Russian hybrids (leaves) Just Married and My Sweetie. I can't remember them all....I just had a ball anyway!
I had lunch with my friend in the City and then left at 1 PM....well trust me I always take the scenic route! I got lost and went out an hour out of my way. So I backtracked and found my way.
I stopped at Airdrie, AB which is about 15-20 miles from Calgary and went to the thrift store there...wasn't going to because I was tired and had a headache...too much excitement for one day. Anyhow I did stop and I was so glad I did because there were 250 solo souffle cups...I think they are two ozs...well I use them for rooting too. Then I went to Tim Horton's and got chili and bun for supper for me and hubby and timbits of course, oh and Ice Cap....can't stop at Tim Horton's without getting that!
I arrived home at 4:15 so was an eventful day to say the least.
I got everything indexed in the computer and I had a lot of leaves and didn't get them put down until the next day. I was behind two days in my watering and everything was really in dire need of watering. So today I can honestly say I am caught up but another two days and I can start all over again.
Hope I haven't bored anyone with my day!
Joanne
My first African Violet show in Calgary, AB Canada

Wow you are lucky Wow
Thanks Allison, I think I am very fortunate as well...just hope all my leaves take!
Joanne
Precious Pink you bought this one right ? WoW so cute nice variegation. Nice plants you bought ! Good prices on the show plants too !
Is this the Species you won ??
S. grotei (S 17) 1921 (A. Engler) Single, light-medium blue/variable darker eye, 2-3 per peduncle. Flowers may hide under foliage. Pale-dark green, variable texture, round, serrated on most clones. Usually near-white back, occasionally red. Green or brown flexible petiole, variable internode length. Large trailer. Saintpaulia species
I could noy find " Saintpaula Grotei Protzen "
And I thought all Saintpaulia species were registered in FC ?
Hi Allison,
No my friend won the court of order or something like that....yes the S.grotei is the right name of it, sorry about that. I am still a rookie at this...LOL!!! That was her plant and I am not sure if she sold it or not.
She had a huge (I am guessing 20 inches diamter) display of Rob's Sticky Wicket and she had 15.00 on it....I thought I could have made a mint on that one....it was so pretty but she wouldn't sell it to me....cause I had enough....LOL!
I don't know where I got that name from but I thought that is what they were called - the specie ones I mean.
I bought the Precous Pink and the Buckeye as well. I love the variegation....it is pretty even when not in bloom.
In FC I also fount
Sport of Grotei (Unknown) Chimera blue/white stripe. Standard trailer
That would be neat if her's Sported Chimera :))
Gold Rush Grotei Goes Modern (1454) 06/06/1964 (V. Constantinov) Double pink. S. grotei type trailer. Standard trailer
Hi Allison,
Oh I must let her know about that one....I would love to have it wouldn't you? Thank you for sharing that info.
Joanne
Oh yes ! Did you get some leaves I hope :))
How exciting! Sounds like you had a wonderful time, Joanne. The plants you bought are beautiful. I especially love Precious Pink. What a beauty. You are so organized to get everything in the computer. Do you use First Class2 to keep track of your plants? I am thinking of purchasing it. Tell us how you like it and what you do with it.
Nanna
Wow, those are beautiful! I've only been to one show, but it was fun. : ) Glad you had a good time!!
Now I want to go to a show LOL
Awesome pics and flowers
You picked up some real beauties there, Joanne. Precious Pink is a stunner, and you're right, Buckeye Extravaganza does take your breath away. WTG!!
I am afraid I wouldn't trust myself at a show and sale like that. I have no willpower at all. Thanks for sharing the gorgeous photos of the show plants. Stunning!
Don
Joanne~ Great pics. Thanks for sharing them. I sure like that varigated foliage!!
Good afternoon!
Thank you for all your nice compliments, I appreciate you all taking the time to look at the photos.
Yes I have FC2 and I just love it! You can add your own database to the existing listings and you can also add a note about listings that are already in the database. I am always looking on ebay for new hybrids that aren't listed and I have found quite a few Russian hybrids. You can add two pictures of your violet as well. or add to the existing ones. Very user friendly. There are free updates until September 2006 too. I think every month there is an update.
Yes I got a lot of leaves...so now I have to be patient.
I also purchased Precious Purple and it looks exactly like Precious Pink but not sure what the flowers look like - I just looked in FC2 and it says the flowers are a s/d dark purple...looks really cute. Foliage is exactly the same to me.
I purchased three table top lighting fixtures they are only 24 inches wide and about a foot wide but it is additional lighting and I set them up in my bedroom....no room anywhere else. I think eventually when I can afford it I will get another 3-tier lightstand and then that is it! No more room.
Thanks again for all your comments!
Joanne
Joanne
Did you get your new updates the month ! Lots of new pictures and plants and info :))
Hope yoi get lot's of babies with your leaves ! Can't wait to see them grow ! This is the best time of the year to put leaves down ! Good luck !
Good evening Allison,
Yes I got the new update on May 1st I think. Do they have new updates every month? I just got my FC2 so I am not sure of that.
Well I have put some babies down today in sphagnum so I am hoping they will take....I have babies all over the place....
I have noticed on ebay there is always Violets on there that aren't in our database so I keep adding to it.
Apparently there was some change with Picasso....did you hear anything about that one Allison? I will see if I can find out anymore about it.
Joanne
Picasso (6924) 10/04/1988 (M. Tremblay) Double light blue and white/variable white fantasy. Variegated medium green, plain/silver-green back. Large
2 beautifu; pictures i don't know exact what it said before ? So not sure difference . I grew so many of these. Gave last one to April
Joanne,
They are beautiful. I heard it said the Lemon Whip is the nicest of all the yellow violets. Was there a lot of yellow when you saw it up close? Linda
Linda - I think it was a very soft yellow. It was very pretty though!
Allison - They changed from fantasy to variable as it apparently it was not a stable trait. It really is unfortunate because now the two will be competiting against each other.
