New from Maine

Maine, United States(Zone 5b)

Hello everyone,

I'm new to the board and brand new to the world of gardening. We bought our home a few years ago from someone that wasn't exactly an avid gardener, and let's just say that there aren't books basic enough to explain things to me...unfortunately my parents did not force me to help with yard work when I was growing up, and as a result, I truly know next to nothing about any of it. Even more unfortunately, my husband is much the same way!

BUT our yard does have a lot of potential, I believe, with some interesting rocky ledges/walls and contours which were totally buried beneath huge mound of weeds, saplings, and brush. I spent a large portion of last summer clearing away much of that (still a lot left) and generally trying to read books and articles on the subject, trying to gear up for this summer where I hope to get some real planting and landscaping done. This looks like a great board, and I certainly have a lot of questions for you all.

Welcome, this is the place to find information. One peice of advice: start small and do a few simple projects until you get a feel for gardening and working with nature. That way you won't get overwelmed if you bite off more than you can chew.

Colleen, There is a great book called "Digging Deep" written by Fran Sorin. It really does help to get you organised or at least on the trail to your dream garden or yard. Oh Yeah, Welcome from another newbie. Happy gardening! Shar
