Has anyone used this around their pond or know if it would be harmful if runoff from it got in the pond? I would love to use some red mulch, which I've never used before anywhere, around the pond.
Thanks,
Lana

OMG that is such a beautiful pond!! I think that I will have to get out my shovel................. :)
That is gorgeous Dax! Very different from the norm...in a good way :~) Thanks for the info and the pics I LOVE seeing other ponds. I bought some red mulch today for some other beds the ones by the pond aren't ready yet. I had to pull your pics up on Mom's computer too so she could see them! Here's a pic of my pond last week. I was trying to show Mom the changes we made in the waterfall so not a good full pond pic. You can see the edges aren't finished yet(need lots more rock!)the liner bunched up at the far end where the boards are is where the future bog will be. We'll have to build it with block like we did the plant pond because the yard starts sloping quickly back that way...I'm not sad about it though because I'll have another place to put hosta around the back of the bog wall
:~D LOL
None of the landscaping is done around the pond yet but I have plenty of plants in pots waiting to get it started and adding more to them weekly ;~) You can also see our make-shift filter in the plant pond, a 5-gal bucket with pillow stuffing in it, I've found the stuffing at Walmart in 5lb boxes for less than $8. Works quite well. You can see the fish a bit in this one.

Just gorgeous! I can see that you're going to have a beauty - I just put mine in last year, and got all the liner covered this spring - just so much to do, and I know you want to get your gardens started too. Isn't it fun? And I love your fish - how'd they get so big? Mine are still pretty small - see pic - Dax
Both of you have wonderful ponds going on! Doing it all yourself? Wow! I just have a small, pre-formed pond (about 90 gallons) but, so cold here, cannot be used in winter. Suppose it could if I heated it. I am still working at putting gardens around it. Love looking at other people's creations. I enjoy mine, and I am sure you feel the same or you would not go to so much work! LOL! BAM
Thanks.
Bam, if you had a whole lot of flow going on and a floating de-icer like for stock tanks you might be able to keep it going, fish probably couldn't take all that flow in the winter though so I wouldn't suggest trying to overwinter fish in there. I'm sure you enjoy your small pond as much as we do our larger ones. It's all about relaxation and enjoyment...and a place to fit more and different plants of course! :~D
Dax, I love the color of your fish what kind are they? I have one Golden Orf fish which is the biggest in the pond and it was brought into the local fish store by another ponder, the rest are Koi. A few I got off ebay, some from a local fish breeder and a bunch from the local fish store.
I'll post pics once I finally get the landscaping around the pond going.

It may be just something down here, but there have been reports of arsenic being in the red mulch......but it is still being sold at HD....Go figure. So I don't know if it's fact or fiction, but I am changing the next mulch I put on because of my dog.....excuse me, my baby....
Is he not the cutest thing? Not the one with the ponytail silly. He's just handsome...

Believe it or not, there was just a video on the red mulch on my news station. I guess it's a Florida/New Orleans problem. They are grinding up all the litter from the mess of the hurricanes, which contains all the crap from mankind, spraying it red and selling it as mulch. So if you don't live in hurricane area I guess you are safe. But I'd check the label to see where it has come from. I tried to get it to this forum, but with my technical capabilities, I was not able to do it. Sorry.

Pardon my manners. Everyone's babys are great. Almost as cute as Archie....hehehe
