Just had the joy of a door to door person doing the census. Probably was because I live in a very itinerant shifting populated part of the city. I was lucky enough to get the long form . All kinds of intrusive questions.
gave I don't know to most answers, how much housework do I do, my investments, own or rent, how long lived here. Where did I live 10 years ago,, grandparents background etc etc etc. So, they did find that I am a female (of 89 years) still able to walk, lives here. That is all they need to know for their body count.
Don't forget that this is tabulated and run by a US company located in ??? Delaware I think. So be careful what you say. I mean, do you even want to give your real name or birthdate????

Census
just got ours in the mail this morning, and don't kow yet if it's the long or short form. Good info Ginny, I"ll have to think about the answers.
A census rebellion. Maybe we can all get sent to the same jail. What a RU that could be. The last? census we got was a short one I think. But I remember getting the long one and I wouldn't let the woman in town come and pick it up. "But it's all confidential you know" How's it confidential if one person in your neighbourhood knows everything about your life? How many have to know before it's not confidentiall anymore? They sent a woman from a town a little further away to get mine. At least I didn't know her.
The short one is one piece of paper folded into 3. The long one is a booklet with sheets in two diff. sizes inside.

I am currently trying to fill the census in online. DON'T bother, its taken me more than 30 minutes to answer 3 questions -- each page is taking at least 5 minutes to load. The site is beyond slow. It'll take you less time to fill it in by hand and then walk to the letter box.
I don't know but I kind of like the census thing. I got the short version today (thank goodness) and have already popped it back into the mail system. At the height of my genealogy research, I found pouring over an old census very useful. I found some pretty key details about how my ancestors lived that further helped me along. I would want my future descendants to have the same access should they decide to look me up, lol.
On one page of the 1871 census (that I found on microfilm at the archives), the census taker scribbled some notes about having to trudge through bitter cold, snowy corn fields to get from farm to farm. I could feel his frustration through his words and it took me back over a century, imagining what it must have been like to gather that info. I'm glad he wrote those notes and I appreciate his efforts, whoever he was.

I got the short form. Started to fill it in on-line and suddenly realized I wasnt suppose to do it until May 16!
I dont mind the census I think the govt gets a lot of good information from it and that is needed for lots of programs.
I got the short one, I have always filled it out, I just follow the rules. (well, most of the time anyway)
I just saw it came in the mail today. Haven't looked at it yet though.....don't know if it's the long or short. But the envelope did look pretty full.....

Well just did the short form on-line, took less than 10 minutes for me.
I just hated that after I entered my Birth Date a Screen came up asking:
This makes You XX years old, is that correct?, I was just sitting in front of the screen for awhile in denial :)
Couldn't they make this screen say something like: This makes You XX Years old, but you look Younger, are You sure that's correct ?
;)
LOL...
Haven't rec'd mine yet but plan on doing it online.
Milan, thanks for the laugh.
I just filled my out ..the short form ...already in the mail box
that's done ..now I am going to checking out what else is growing in my flower beds ..more new discoveries !
