Seed harvesting

Valrico, FL(Zone 9b)

Posting this for a customer of ours.

Attached is a picture with the large seed pod. Basically the question is, Now What? Should it be covered to harvest the seeds like we do for Adenium? How long are they viable for, etc.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Chris, I believe they take about 8 months to mature once they develop.
When it dries and starts splitting you can remove it.
I dont think they throw the seeds like adeniums do, I may be wrong but I dont recall anyone saying they 'pop' all over the place.
You could wrap it with a pice of nylon stocking if your concerned about that though.
Good Luck!

Chris,
Mine took almost 10 months to ripen. Different varieties take different lengths of time. I had one that ripened in 6 months. The seed pods on both opened gradually although I did read somewhere that they do pop out.. mine didn't.

Here are a couple pictures showing couple of the stages

They will not necessarily pop out but if it's windy they will get blown away.
The best course of action is to put a stocking or similar on it when it looks like it's starting to open, and so catch the seeds that way.

Chris,
I won't tell you what everyone else has told you just wanted to invite you to our Garden Party on Saturday the 13th. I live in Bradenton and there will be lots of plumie people there. I have a thread started on it and will visit it again to refresh every.

Cool seedpods! I second the nylon knee-high stocking suggestion to prevent the wind from dispersing the seeds.
