HI -
last year I planted a perennial hibiscus for my zone in my garden. it was wonderful - had beautiful large flowers until the frost. During the winter it died back to the ground. As directed, I cut the plant back and mulched it.
Now its the spring and I have yet to see any new growth at all. The roots appear to be alive though. Well, they sort of appear to be alive. They are sort of green inside a little. Does anyone know anything about these perennial plants? Like when are they supposed to send up shoots? When are they supposed to show sends of life? I have the tag for the plant somewhere. I'll have to go looking for it tomorrow. Like I said, It was such a beautiful plant.

Perennial Hibiscus
Ken, I would guess it is still not warm enough in your area. I have tropical and perennials, and they are just barely getting leaves. THen again, I have a tropical that has been blooming for a month.
Maybe it depends on the variety. Good luck, don't give up on it yet.
Hi Ken, I've grown perennial hibiscus for a few years. It's one of the last things to emerge from the ground. I too thought it was dead when I first started growing these beauties, but they have never failed me. What variety do you grow?
All of mine are through the ground except for about 5 and I think it depends of which one you have. Give them time.
