In the spring oif 2004, i bought a thornless shrub with tiny (half inch) yellow rose like flowers at the Newnan, Ga. Lowes store. it bloomed slightly that year, then bloomed beautfully in Spring of 05. Later that year, we turned the dog out, and of course the only place stupid wanted to dig was under that particular bush. So it died, and now i'm looking to replace it. The only problem is, i can't remember what the name was. I want to say it was the "Texas Tea Rose"
It looked like a climber, but didn't climb the metal shepard crook i had it on. It had dark green tiny leqaves, and the stems turned browninsh in the winter. hundreds of blooms, and bloomed Apr-early June.
Please help !!
Thanks,
B.

Thornless, Tiny yellow roselike "shrub" sold in GA Lowe's
Neither a rose nor from Texas, the plant you are looking for is Kerria japonica. It comes in single and fully doubled flower forms, and there is a form with a varigated leaf, I received one at the fall RU last year so I am sure some one has some to share. If not I will try to root a start for you, The one I received is double with a solid green leaf.

Sweeeeet!
I knew it wasn't a rose, but for some reason, the name was sticking in my mind. My wife loved the plant, and i'd like to find another one for her. I did a search on DG for "texas tea rose," but didn't go down the list far enough (or there were no pictures) for me to see K. japonica. thank you so much!
Not to sound like a neebiw, but what's an RU?
Thanks,
B.
Kerria sounds like it and I got mine at a roundup too. Round up (not the weed killer but folks (gardeners) getting together to meet and swap plants (not required).
Back to the plant, some refer to it as Lady Banks Rose and get upset when you tell them it is kerria.
Brenda
I didn't know that folks confused it with the Lady Banks rose. I can see if you were unfamiliar with both, but...umm.
Round Ups are great. If you are free this weekend come to spring RU. You will meet a lot of folks with extra plants to give away and they will insist that you take some home with you. Check out the Round Up forum for more info on the Georgia RU.

Gotcha.
I looked at some of the pictures, and the kerria flower looks more like a daisey, where as the one i had looked like a rose. . . yellow petals spiraled and folded around a center.
(but i did find one variation that looked kind of like it.)
What is are some of the common names?

Well. . . .
I was in McDonough today, and got a shrub book at a used book store near the square. Lo and Behold, there was a pic of a Kerria Ja., and it looks like what i remember. Then, I look at the links provided, and that looks like it too!
Does that mean i have to get both? I think it might!!!
Any one know any nurseries local that would sell them?
B.
lowes might have them both. the lady banks is pretty common so lowes or home depot should have it at least ours does.
I just picked up 3 lady banks fromt he East Cobb Home Depot for around $7 each.. Saw them at Pikes for double that.
