Spicebush Swallowtail Cat

NE Medina Co., TX(Zone 8a)

This is one of the two caterpillars on my Spicebush plant. They just turned green after going through the bird-dropping phases. That's when they really start to look cool! BTW, I got the caterpillars from a native nursery. Just happened to mention while there that I hadn't seen any caterpillars this year on the plants I bought there last fall. And before I knew it, the nursery guy was getting me some to go home with me. Full-service nursery, you know!

I just love the faces on them! We don't have them here.

I wonder if spicebush would grow this far south? He is soooooooo cute!

But Daddy, I can't eat him.

Well for heaven sakes why not?

Because he looks like Frank Sinatra.

I just bought my first spice bush - tiny thing today but I have hopes for a big plant and lots of butterflies. HM

Calalily,
I am also wondering if the spice bush would grow in the high temps and humidity in Houston. I have heard a lot about the plant but have never seen one except in plant files. I suppose maybe a native nursery would have them.
