Tilling how long to wait after rain?

Chicago, IL

I managed to borrow a rear tiller and got the surface of my new crusty neglected yard scratched before the rain started yesterday (actually continued for a few hours in light drizzle).
It's been raining for a day and a half now . . . how long should I wait before taking another stab at it?
Is there any advantage to tackling it while still damp?
Thx . . .

There are many who say that wet tilling causes too fine of soil so I should say no. But being German "Vee make hay vhen du sun neigt shining". So I have often torn up lawns and other areas where there is a lot of plant material during wet soil. Please note that I don't do that in clay areas cause it will be concrete.

What's your soil like? Echoing what Sofer says about clay: DON'T till that stuff when it's wet. You'll have nary an air pocket in the stuff for the next 20 years.

Try turning some with a shovel to see if it sticks or clumps. Don't work it if it isn't crumbly.

Thanks!
