I have a rose bush that looks very healthy, no bugs are showing, The original blossoms were pink, now they are almost cream with a tinge of pink. Not as beautiful as a Peace Rose, but pretty.
However as you can see by the picture the bud end is brown. Anyone know what the problem is, also a spray that will help that is natural and not chemical. Thanks Txsdar

Brown Tips on my Rose Buds
Txsdar, a couple of questions. Is it all over the bush or just isolated buds? Have you had a recent rain? Have you opened any of the damaged buds to see if there are bugs inside it?
I have a lot that look just like that....and I blame it on thirps..they are almost too small to see. Pick a bloom and hold it over a white sheet of paper and then you can see them...nasty crittrs!
We just had a big rain, and not all blooms are affected. No I have not opened any buds yet. I was thinking thrips, will a dish soap mixture take care of them? At what proportions. Thanks Txsdar
Txsdar, have you ever been to Oma's in Fredericksburg? It's on North Llano. They have all kinds of organic stuff and very good advice. I think she told me to use liquid seaweed. Probably anything that'll make the buds taste bad will work. I haven't had much trouble with thrips. My problem is usually just aphids, and grasshoppers.
I am not sure what works on them...they go away when it gets hot, and that is in a few minutes (or so) so I am just going to wait...that is my plan...
Melvatoo, you have an excellent plan.
Josephine.
I have some liquid seaweed and fish emulsion. I ordered them from Gardens alive. I use the fish emulsion on my garden plants. Or you can mix both and use on flowers. I hope it will keep critters away as it does not smell very good.
I go to Frdsbrg alot. I like that HEB better than Krvl.
Thanks for the tip. Txsdar
I don't normally have roses (can't deal with the black spot) but I got a cutting from a swap last year that grew into a small bush and is a beautiful color bloom. The second bloom was doing this same thing so I got down and pulled back the outer leaf and saw tiny little bugs inside on the bloom. They were almost colorless and kind of long looking, much smaller than an aphid. I sprayed it with insecticidal soap and saw today that the bud finally opened. I'd check it.
I have some catapillar like perfect holes starting on 2 of my 5 rose bushes. Have not seen the culprit. Thought maybe was just hail holes from all the storms lately. Not thinking so. Can you identify the criminal in this offense?
They are perhaps crescents. They are usually on corners of leaves and are almost perfect half circles. I don't recall if I've seen any full circles on them. I will check tomorrow. Thanks!
Soumd like leaf cutter bees...they use the pieces of leaves to line their nests...

Melva,
Oh you are wonderful to solve this mystery for me. Here is a link for all others wondering what is happening to their roses.
