What size cup/pot is " BEST " to use when growing by leaves ?
Which will give you the fastest healthest babies ?
In the past couple years I have grown thousands of babies by leaf. First I learned to use 3 oz. cups but their not always easy to find. When I was using more I bought them by the cases . Now Hubby buys what the store has. Sometimes 3 oz, sometimes 5 oz. I also have a case of 2 oz. dixie cups. !
I am here to say I feel it DOES NOT make a difference what size conatainer you use.
I have used all above and pots. Last leaves Laurie sent I was not feeling well and Hubby potted them up each in their own little wicked 2 inch round pot. Their all so cute and happy !
I'd ike to say use what ever you have. If enviroment is good and care is good you will have healthy babies in good timing each time you set a leaf down !
I took a few pictures, 2 inch, 3 inch, 5 inch, and 2.50 inch pot.
All set down around the same time. Sense I have so many containers I like to use the 2 oz. for miniature and semi-miniature leaves. 3 and 4 oz for larger leaves.
What size cup/pot is " BEST " to use when growing by leaves
5 z. close up of Snow Leopard Russian leaf pot. I think the 5 oz. gives lots of room for good healthy roots for large plants and room for the Mom leaf to have several healthy babies. She has babies front and back. he differencebetween hhhh 5 oz. down to 2 oz. does not make a difference how fast the leaf roots and grows babies. it is not slower.
5 oz. close up of Leaf pot Pink Sensation. She has babies front back all around too !
Buckeye Country Lilacs (9317) 02/19/2004 (P. Hancock) Semidouble two-tone lavender ruffled pansy/darker eye. Variegated dark green, pink and cream, pointed, quilted, serrated. Large
I took the flowers off yeasterday so Mom leaf can work on growing more baby leaves. It did have bloom sltak leaves I left !
MY 2 cents and experience is use any size you have ! Use healthy leaf not old not young, clean leaf is good, cut stem short and push until leaf touch soil. If you see my stem up it's beacause if grew. Use very light soil-less mix. Keep warm 68-74 degrees, good air circulation, regular watering and feeding program, light and love and it will always be easy for you to grow African violets by leaf ! A great joy and a joy to share :))
I was just going to write and ask you about that Allison. I saw that some of yours were out above the soil, and wondered. I put mine down against the mix. I have to water today, all the leaves and NOID's :)
Thinking about going to Krogers to look again, they had 1 more that I liked, and there are 4 Krogers here within about the same driving distance.
Hmmmmm.... LOL

Wow, your leaves look great. : ) I agree, any size of those will work if there is enough room for roots. : ) My sneaky way to have more room is to put mini leaves in one ounce cups. They are plenty big, at least so far. I use the 3 oz for standards and some semi minis. Your leaves are beautiful, Allison.
The only kind I can find at the store is 3 oz. I have ordered one ounce before over the internet.
Thanks ~ Hubby finds either 3 or 5 oz at the stores. I use to order but don't use enough to do so. And Laurie got me a case of 2 oz dixie cups. Thousands of babies later I fount does not mater what size you use. Use what ever size you like or can find !
babies are so cute!
Thanks Jan ! I just wanted to show them they were put down the same time in three different size cups and all grew well !
OMG, Allison...you can even get the leaves to BLOOM!!! ~lol~ You have really got the knack:0)
Thnks ! This happn eery so oten !
