Need help with water lily ID

Any one out there know this plant?

I found it growing in one lake out in Citrus Park. I have never seen it in any other body of water in florida. It grows year around and blooms every day. I suspect somone dropped it into the lake years ago. It doesn't form a tuber like some lilies.

It roots along the shore, will grow in bog conditions, but also floats around in mats. The flowers shown in my picture are about 1/4 the size of the lake growing plants. The plant is not invasive and seems to fit in well with the natives. I am sure it is not native because there is another lake, seperated by a road and about 10 feet of dry land on either side of the road and it is not in the second lake (or any other lake nearby). It multiplies very well by offsets.

Any hints?

With the name comes the search. This plant is considered a weed, invasive and unwanted. China is the country of origin. Looks like it is headed for the compost heap before the weed police come to get me. Too bad I like it.

Dale, no reason not to keep it if you practice safe rules of disposal.......when you have too many, toss them in the trash, period. They do make lots of babies that could be anywhere, so a safer rule would be to never add anything from your pond to any other body of water. It is a great plant- I love it, too.

I picked it out of the lake last year to see if I could grow it easily and sell it to one of the local pond supply stores, that ain't gonna happen. I bought 4 cultivated lillies for the same purpose. Looks bad for little Snowflake. I can use the space for something else. The toads will miss it too, the use it for cover when I come around.

I have snowflake in my water gardens....they're dainty and beautiful....and contained. No reason to discard something that you can also control from getting into main waterways. Proceed with caution, but do indeed proceed.
