Odessa, what grows well

Weimar, TX(Zone 8b)

I am headed to Odessa tomorrow. I would like to plant something in my daughters flowerbeds that are bare. She doesn't have time and I would like to put in something that wouldn't require much time on her part - mainly watering. Any suggestions?

You couldn't go wrong with Lantana Camera, or Lantana Horrida, Salvia Greggii, Flame Acanthus anf Turk's Cap, they are all hardy, easy to find, and don't require a lot of water. Good luck.

Mealy Blue Sage and the yellow colors of Lantana look very striking together. Esperanza (yellow bells) are very hardy. Mexican Petunias also do well.

My Mother had flowers in the yard at Kermit, Texas (44 miles west of Odessa) over a 40 year period. I don't remember all she raised, but do remember the Snow on the Mountain (Euphorbia marginata) and the old fashioned Tall Purple Phlox still stand out in my mind's eye. These put on quite a show in the arid landscape.

I grew up in Midland, near Odessa, and remember that my mother grew beautiful chrysanthemums. Irises, daylilies, and salvias should do well there too.
