Do you know ?

Do you know this is the best time of the year to put down leaves ! Take a leaf from each of your plants to have babies in the Fall to share, secret trades ! Place an order for leaves ! If only ten to share and enjoy !
Each winter I put leaves down I say never again. It's slow....or they just sit there. Spring is the best time. They progate faster, healthy .
Not only this , next winter when it's cold and cloudy, snowing and your wishing for Spring Shipping and trades. Or you order and pay higher shipping and Ebay bids always go higher in the Winter. You will have blooming plants !
This is the time to re-pot your plants, groom and get them growing healthy ! This is the time to set seeds and put down leaves.
I understand it's hard with Sunny Spring/Summer coming around everyone's corners and hard to remember how you wish you had blooming plants or could order last winter.
By taking a little time and putting leaves down now, you will be amazed how fun and fast they progate and you don't have the cold , mildew, mold, algea yuk. Think Fall trades and our big Secret Fall Swap !
You will have a home of cheery flowering plants !
I like having a lot of red and white flowering plants in the winter during Holiday seasons so I plan for this now !
Happy Growing !

You know that makes sense to me, even those I put down in January and February didn't seem to do as well as those I have put down within the past month or so.

No, I didn't know it, either. Off to put down leaves..... : )

Abilene, TX

I may need to put down a LOT of leaves...I just bought 5000 one ounce cups off EBAY. HA!! Hey, it was a great price. : )

Silver Spring, MD

Let's see --- 5000 divided by X, times the left end of the dangling participle gives you ...... LOTS of plants!

Nanna, isn't that mixing algebra and English? HA!!! too funny. : )

Pam I can send you a box of leaves :)) 5 thousand oh my. Laurie got me a case of 2 oz.dixie cups I think 12 hundred . I use to buy 3 oz. in cases of 2500 but don't use as much anymore.
5 thousand . You will need little leaves large won't fit in.

Abilene, TX

I know, but I like the smaller plants a little better. The 3 ounce uses so much perlite, etc, and takes more room. The one ounce are not available in town, so I have been searching the web and found these on ebay. more than I need right now, but.....I thought I could share them, too. : ) Do you like the two ounce? is that the same diameter as the 3 ounce but shorter?

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

2 oz are shorter and wider than 3 oz. But not good for standard size leaves. Also I find have to be trans-planted more often. I put some suckers and small plants in them too ! I like them deeper I find more room for roots and babies to grow when I separate the cups are full :))

Abilene, TX

Allison, I would love the leaves, thanks!!! Just whenever you get to it. It might be easier to wait until the Easter Bunny activities are over. : )

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Yes I will send you leaves after the Easter Bunny . I will try to send lots of mini and semis so you can use some of your cups :))
I have been trans-planting, put some leaves down, watering, still need to do my Cygnet but got tired and it will take a lot of work trans-planting it has a zillion babies.
But I took pictures of babies in cups with Mom leaf all put down at the same time. I have them in 2 oz. , 3 oz. and 5 oz. as I am use to using what ever Hubby can find at the store. I do like 3 or 5 oz. for standard size leaves. In little while I will download a couple of each size cup put down the same time so you can see what's the best size to use or does it really mater ?

Abilene, TX

I have 3 ounce cups and the 1 ounce are on the way. I think those are the two sizes I like best. Pictures are always good, though. I saw on another thread someone asked how many violets you have. Forgot which thread. I have been having trouble posting. Anyway, what was your answer? Pam

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

I don' t know the answer as I mostly grow by leaf to share them with others, i still have I think 4-5 boxes of free plants for shipping to go out. Then two Secret Swap boxes and some personal trades. Right there is about 150 babies. I have sent out over 600 free / or trade plants already sense Nov 2005 to DG friends ! The more I share the more babies God grows me ! I love growing babies ! I do not keep many plants for myself.
Tonight I finaly got to transplant my Alsobia Cygnet from a 5 inch pan pot to 6 " hanging ! I never let them go like this I don't know how fast they grew she has so many babies. I only potted up about 35 of the babies! As long as I can I will grow babies. Lots of times Hubby has to put down the leaves. Last time Laurie sent leaves he set them in wicked two inch pots , time before when Lorry sent a lot of leaves he put them in 5 oz. wicked cups They are all doing great !
Today I took pictures of babies couple in 2 oz. dixie cups, 3 oz, and 5 oz. and to be honest there is no difference ! I have always used what I have what Hubby can find at t store. I can not do the pictures now will tommorrow !
